Generous, loud, and least tidy I can believe, but worst dressed?  no way...

Everyone knows that its because the rest of the word are still stuck in the '80s. If your not wearing a 'members only' jacket or acid washed jeans your not in style outside of the US.

I am the happiest in a clean, plain white (or plain black) T-shirt and jeans or shorts.   I've never understood why some folks get narcissistic about fashion to the point of madness.   If getting stressed over other people's style of dress get's you bent of shape, I'm glad to contribute.   I lose no sleep over it.   Although, I will never wear flip flops, except on the beach.   Wearing them in Metro Detroit means only one thing in the end, you're lazy.  

Tell me about it. I don't 'dress up' for anything. Plain shirt, jeans, and my five year old work boots that are falling apart. Iv been to places where people that would stair at me like I was some kind of hobo. I just look at them and say ''you have a problem?'' I will never pay more then $20 for a pair of paints, $10 for for a shirt, and never more then $100 for my boots. Anything more is just a waste of money IMO.

And my flip flops are for the house or if I'm just going outside, but I'm 'country' so bare footed is just as good.

A solid color t-shirt with no printing and a pair of nice jeans is classic and classy. It is just dressy enough to fit in at the aquarium or model kit expo, yet comfortable enough to not sweat like a pig in those Spanish Villas. If the hotels and fashionistas do not understand this, I must question their fashion-sense.

I been  working  years at sea on board of Princess Cruises ships all over from Alaska,Caribean  to Europe dealing with large groups of tourists from all over the world . Who cares how the tourists are dressed, i met american passengers with over 300 cruises they used to pay  200k$ and have an apartment booked an board all year around and were dressed less fancy than others who  payed for the  cruise with credit card. From our point of view working as waiter/bartender, the cruises with large groups of british were the worst nightmare :  restaurant open for "Tea Time" betwen lunch and dinner, always complaining  because american made "Yorkshire pudding " was not fluffy enough ,and the worst ... they don't  pay for services like we do here in Canada and  US.

  Poor brits, with their non fluff Yorkshire Pudding.
