What this Sim really needs...

Is a new aricraft...

Target Drones in the training areas.

I am getting tired of diving down on a bogey, getting within 200 yds, and not getting a single hit.  I don't know if I am leading too  much or two little, too high or too low.

I set the guns in my F4U to 250 yds convergence.

Any other sim I've played has drones.  WWII had drones, so this is a "Realistic" request.

It is hard enough being a newbie in here, but after about 6 weeks, I still can't hit spit (or any other plane types)

The Hog is good for Hit&Run tactics. You have to keep her fast, so 250yds IMHO are not enuff.

Either with 4x20mm or 6x12,7mm, the F4U's guns are very good. Set your convergence at 350-400yds, I mean for all the guns.

Then practice, practice, practice. You dont know how many WB good pilots are not able to hit a barn door during the first weeks in AH (and viceversa)

<EDIT> Drones should be ok for off-line play.

You should film your flights for review later or even after each run. Then you'll see , via the external view, how your shots really went versus what you thought they did during the actual shooting.

Westy - film or no film we need off-line drones for target/ACM practice.

The problem might be (I think) that HTC simply don't have enough human resources to spend time on developing off-line things .

almost as good are the trainers in the TA .. they work well for Voice activated adjustable "AI" target drones

If you want to have some target practice just  holler and we can make an apointment..

As much as I agree with you people who want drones, the current resources of HTC shouldn't be used for off-line activities. This is an online sim, afterall. Hopefully, sometime in the future they could add things like drones.

Until then, you'll have to settle for killing guys like me. I make a great target drone in the MA!

I play Red Baron 2, and Flying Circus.

Before any big event or if I've been away  playing target drone in the MA of AH.. I spend a few mindless hours target practicing off-line.

I believe as Billy Bishop did that the three most important things in aerial combat are;

Ist Gunnery
2nd Tactics for entering a fight
3rd least of all are flying skills themselves

If you get 1 and 2 right, you don't have to fly worth spit. The bogey will be dead or crippled on the first pass, especially in AH where any hit does an unreal amount of damage.

I doubt if I can get a Trainer to spend 2 hours at my convienience, any time I want, to fly drone for me.

As for resources, we are paying $30 a month for this puppy.  We don't need 500 different plane types.  More Italian, more Kraut, More Jap more more... hell we have enough planes to keep ya busy for a long long time.  If anything I think we need more ground vehicles.

And how about letting us man the acks at a base???  I'd love to sit on a 40mm ack during an attack!

This asking newcommers to be target drones for the Main Arena sux.  We need adequate training before we get fed to the wolves. If you can't shoot, you are only a drone.  Remember, there are only two kinds of planes:
fighters and targets.

I'm tired of being a target

I agree on both points Lynx. It would be nice to have off line drones, however I don't think it's at the top of the priority list at HTC.

In the meant time. My  idea is still a good way to review self performance.

AKs are a big and good squad why don't you ask a few mates to go into the TA and practice on them?

Torque

'Cause we are too busy being your target drones LOL.  I've had lots of wings "Torqued Off"

I find gunnery practice to be about as exciting as watching a Golf match (I'd rather watch a political debate).

So what do you do? Say "Hey AKDrone" would you mind taking off and getting to 5000 ft, so I can make a firing pass at you?  I mean how freaking fun can it be to take off just to get shot down? Sure my buddies would do it a few times, but why should I screw up thier fun?  Gunnery takes HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of dull, boring, fly shoot fly shoot. Until it becomes second nature.

Drones give you lots of targets, fast, at whatever angle you want to practice.

I'm not talking dogfighting here, I'm talking gunnery. Pure and simple, how much lead at this angle of deflection, at this distance?

I want to concentrate on one thing and one thing only. Gunnery, not sa, not e managment etc etc. Those are different skills, gunnery has to become automatic, the lead, angle etc must be learned and become automatic. You have so much to concntrate on in a dogfight shooting should not be one of them. And this kind of skill only comes through practice practice practice. Online I get die die die die, because I miss every freaking shot. So how do I get practice now? I get maybe 20 firing solutions in a 4 hour night of flying, my hit % is 2%,why only 20? because I miss and the bogey shoots my butt off. If I had hit him tables would be turned.  In most sims my gunnery is 50% or greater. Why? because there is a place to practice without having to have your butt handed to you. hard to concentrate and develop shooting skills when you are trying to manage e, trim tabs, check six, yo yo, and stay alive. Meanwhile a pilot of your caliber zooms through and turns my F4U into junk.

That or I get on a bogeys six, line up a shot, and someone else vaporizes him before I can pull the trigger. So how do you learn gunnery skills in this sim? Damn slowly Sir Damn slowly.

The more people we attract to this sim the better it will be. Drones would be an attractive feature.

Yep ,,  offline drones or in the training place would be awsome , not just strt flying like on a string  but some that are circling  or even looping some that fly slow and some that fly really fast in a pattern would be great practice.
