Still haven't got the aircraft for 8th A.F. Scenarios
« on: March 03, 2001, 03:08:00 PM »
S!

Getting the P-51b is a step forward, but where's the P-47D-21 Razorback, the P-38H, the 110G, the Ju88C, the B-17F, the B-24, the B-25 and the Spitfire Mk IXLF?

The Crucial period of the war, July 1943 to June 1944, when the Allies, primarily the US 8th A.F., fought for and won air superiority over Europe, still can't be modelled in a Scenario.

Everything after that was gravy.   The Germans never seriously challenged for control of the air after the Spring of '44.

Most of the German aircraft modelled in AH are being forced to deal with Allied models which are not of their era.  The only exceptions:  the Dora, G10 and the ludicrously included Ta-152H.  (Did someone say 10 aircraft actually saw combat?  I'll bet the 152H's saw more flight time logged with Allied test pilots than German Combat ones)

The Pacific theater is even worse.  (and something tells me the F-8F is going to be modelled too even though it never saw combat)

And what's the betting the F-86 will appear before AH gets a single early war aircraft?

Well, that makes my decision easy:  IL-2 it is.

Clever response.  Notice you didn't address any of my points though...

Are you saying that the IL-2 will soon be seen AH or you are switching to a game that is barely in closed beta?

Or are you saying that IL-2 will have a more diverse plane set than AH, including a lot of early, mid, and late-war craft from more than one or two countries?

Or are you saying that while you are flying IL-2 with 150 of your friends you will be talking about the next free release of an
IL-2 update where they are going to get some more late-war planes?

Wait until he realises there's no Mustang in Il-2...

" "Most of the German aircraft modelled in AH are being forced to deal with Allied models which are not of their era." This roadkill gets old. You must be related to Herr Naudet and reading from the same revised history book. The one with the forward dedicated to preservation of the master race)

P-51 is a 1940-41 aircraft with a Spifire eng, bubble canopy and they dropped the cannon for 6 '50's.  P-47 are both 1942-43 models with small changes and a bubble top canopy. In both the case of the 51 and 47 the bubble top gave better view, not performance. Put that in your pipe and chok__ er smoke it.  P-38 is an even older aircraft than those two with over due changes to the engine and flight controls. B17 is a 1936 plane with modifications to tail and other Same. B26 same.

You're all wet on this one Buzzbait.

I think you should try the AH 8 person H2H for a  taste of what four times as many cretins will be like when he hits IL2 32 person H2H.

(disclaimer: not all H2H folks are cretins. Just a huge sh&tload are)

Lessee, 29 cretins and 3 normal guys in a sim that works with totally historical aircraft online in a totally historical map vs 7 cretins and 1 normal guy in a fantasy H2H map flying anything that might have been in WWII vs 133 cretins and 17 normal guys in the AH MA flying anything they can get thier hands on?

Gotta go with the 29/3 on this one.

The above is of course contingent on IL2 actually performing online as advertised.

There are no "free" upgrades to AH, we pay 30 bucks a month for a game that is based on upgrades.

What IL2 finally becomes is yet to be determined and if it offers a better online experience than AH does then some will go there.

What constitutes "a better online experience" is way too subjective to even bother debating.

[Disclaimer: Having no idea how to convert "a huge sh&tload" into correct percentages I apologise for any inaccuracies in my figures above.]

Spitfire 24 is a 1938 aircraft with a few minor changes. I want it NOW. Hawker FURY is a 1942 aircraft, that should be here as well.

Westy, the P51D dates from mid 44, the P51B from late 43. To take the date when the first prototype was designed as the date of the plane is ridiculous, especially when the changes to the plane include different engines etc.
The Spitfire prototype flew in March 1936, does that follow that all Spitfires are 1936 aircraft? If that's the case, you surely have no objection to the Spit XIV, or 21, or 24. They are afterall 1936 aircraft.
The P51 first flew in October 1940 That makes it 4 years later than the Spit, 5 later than the 109, more than a year later than the 190.
