The only connection worst than wireless for gaming is satellite. You'll have a hard time keeping a solid connection.

Laptops are also not good for gameing. Make sure you have all the powersaver options turned off. On laptop they are on to save BATTERY power.

How many processes are you running? With a laptop, you really have to get them down to the mid 20's if you can. (cntrl, alt, delete then click on the processes tab at the top)
