A-20 Havoc anyone?
« on: July 20, 2000, 06:12:00 AM »
Anyone want one? Maybe yank that A-26 from the fick Always [nice plane!] and give it some guns. In short: we need a straffer. Not a B-26 trying to play Jabo; a dedicated straffing aircraft.

would love to see the A-20 or even the A-26. This game needs more buffs in it. There's something about all those .50's in the nose that gets me excited.

I agree, the A20 would be great. In about 30 seconds someone will pop in here and strongly advocate the A26, but the the A20 to me is a better representative of the entire war and would be competitive even in this late-war environment.

Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing the B-25H make an appearance in AH. Those 8 forward-firing .50's and the 75mm would do nicely.

A-26 is a better match for the rest of the plane set.

A-20 would be great fun though.  Lots of variants and lots of marking variations.  Next to the Ju 88 it is probably the best "utility plane" because it served in every theatre with at least 4 different countries, and was used as a level bomber, attack bomber, night fighter, and some other roles I'm probably forgetting.

Eventaully, yes, it would be nice to see.  But lets wait on the American stuff a bit, ok?  We've got more American stuff than anything else by far.  Unless we want this to end up as a sim of American equipment vs. American equipment HTC is going to have to focus on some other countries for awhile.

Karnak you must not have had your coffee today.  A-20 was used by the RAF and VVS as much as the USAAF.  With one model we get a plane that can serve three combatants in historical scenarios.

Funked: provided HT models it in VVS or RAF colors. If it's in USAAF colors it's gonna be US iron. Besides, Karnak has a point; most WW2 sims have more US iron than anything else. Komet, Dora, IL-2, Mig-1, Hurricane, Mosquito; we'd be better off with these than an A-20 or A-26. Maybe put out an A-20 in VVS colors along with the JU-88 and Lancaster. Could be fun!

B-25H-5 w/eight point-fifties in the nose and the 75mm cannon, plus the top turret, tail turret and side gunners.

A couple well placed hits with the 75mm would turn any building into scrap metal.

What I mean is that I'd like to see other nations aircraft.  Not other nations flying American aircraft.  It doesn't matter whos paint job you put on it, it matters who built it.

I'd like to see the Tu-2, S.M.79, H8K2 "Emily", He177 and Mosquito MkVI before we see the A-20.  Nothing against the A-20, just that we have enough rides that have "Made in the USA" stamped on them.

How about more euro-asian aircraft like some kind of German  or Japanese bomber , seems to me alot of peeps (including me) complain about the flight characteristics of the b26 already let alone puttin out something with 2.5x that firepower in basically the same package.

The A-20 is nothing like the B26. It has much more maneuverabilty. It was faster than the B26 (38 mph!). In the American designation system, "A" stands for "Attack". The A-20 was considered a ground attack aircraft by the Army Air Force (it of course could do traditional bombing as well). It had a single pilot and gunner. It also served with virtually every nation friendly with the U.S.

Now, I agree that there are aircraft from other countries that should be done first. I would however like to see the A-20 some day.
