laptop recommendations

Assuming  AH beta will be the new AH2 version by the time the AH Con rolls around, I'm thinking about a replacement laptop. Best bang for the buck? Budget is $1,000 tops.

No such thing as a good laptop for AH IMO.

Desktop unit will run twice as well at 1/3 the price.

Actually Ghosth, my 5 yr old eMachine LT will run AH2 in the mid-40's +(FR) and it's built around an AMD dual core 1.6 mhz chipset with an integrated Radeon Mobility card. I'm guessing the new graphix will slow it down a whole lot though.

I got my laptop there as I wanted a laptop that could handle games as well satisfy my college needs.

I got my laptop for $747 there with a dual core AMD, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7600 card, and a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.  They still offer XP from last I heard on their machines for those that still want it.

The laptop I have runs AH easily with all graphic details and high res pack with FR never dropping below 50.

Most of their laptops are under $1k but if you want a real high end one they have them for $2k with 9800s in SLI and quad core processor.

Absolutely agree! For one, as far as I know, they're are not many with separate video cards and therefore they draw power from the cpu. Even with a separate vc I doubt they have the same power as a desktop vc.

alot of the new laptops now are being built with stand alone video cards. I just bought one from best buy for 1300 bucks and this thing will rival most new systems. For me I like having mobility in mind, and the engineering going into todays laptops is getting impressive! I've always been a Toshiba fan.  I used to have a Satellite Pro that I loved and my brother has a Satellite now that's really nice.

They make so many models in so many configurations you can pretty much get exactly what you want.

My wife's Toshiba has been fairly rock solid.  It's going on 5 years.  She had some warranty work done on it when the motherboard/video chipset went out after about 18 months.  Then when she got it back from Toshiba the wireless wasn't working so it had to go back out.  Turn around was about 3-4 weeks total.  Had the power jack replaced at about the 4 year mark.  Replaced the OEM HD about 6 months ago, added the max amount of 2gb of ram to it.

She likes her small laptop though she uses it as a desktop about 98% of the time.  It's a beast at about 9lbs.  I'm personally not a laptop fan (at least not as my main computer machine).  Once major parts start to go bad, they get very expensive and generally you just buy a new one.
