I make calls.  If I know who is calling, I answer it.  Anything beyond that I consider an added burden and complexity I do not need in my life.

Different views for me. I view it has fun, entertaining, and convenience. Though I don't play games on it. I had a professor with your exact same views and his field was (Drum Roll) technology.

The wife and I have dual LG side flip phones. We use it for a phone and occasional texting. I wanted the qwerty keyboard so I could text the Daughter in Law without having to punch a button 3 times for a letter to pop up. We have other bells and whistles on them as well. The only other thing I have used has been the calendar, the alarm clock and the camera. It's primarily a phone to me and I'm happy without the majority of toys that other phones have at higher cost.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

I have a G1 with google's Android OS.  It can do all of those things and IMO a lot more dev friendly.

Doesn't look as "pretty" but that's just the phone's skin, not the OS.

A great way to not crack the screen of a phone is to always place it in your pocket facing your leg (or butt, if that's where you stash it). With bar phones like the iPhone, get a silicone casing. Unless something pierces your leg (much more to worry about) or really thwacks it, it won't incur any damage.

I got this one when I bought my iPhone :

It's a decent case, but the case snapped where the volume controls are when I put it in my pocket and it caught the edge of it.

Gonna eventually buy this one, along with more of the little screen protectors :

Well I better start a list for my phone as it is very long  :lol

I got the AT&T Tilt even they dont sell it anymore I still believe its the best phone ever made still.

It is a Windows Mobile phone so it does a lot.  Every program you could imagine is free on Windows Mobile phones.

I have:
Microsoft Office Mobile on my phone to type up reports, graphs, powerpoint presentations.  Im a college kid and I dont always have a laptop on me.
I have gps program on it that gives me full features even with turn by turn speech for free as it has built in gps.
I can connect my phone to my laptop through a usb cable and connect my laptop to the internet if no wireless is available.
The obvious youtube.
Email.
Text messaging.
Free music ID program.
Check weather.
Microsoft released mobile bing to check movie times, gas prices, etc in the area and can double as a gps but I have a better program.
It has full internet access with internet explorer but I may try mobile firefox soon.
I keep things to do on a calender on it.
It has windows media player so it has music as well.

There are countless downloads that I can also get on just one website alone that makes thousands of programs for windows mobile phones.  The only thing I wish I could find is a program where I can make speech to text for text messaging without having to use the keyboard or touch screen to text.

c'mon man. I bet with all the "texting" he has to either monitor or do on the boards. The very last thing he wants to do anywhere else is..text. LOL

I only on very very very rare occasions text.
In the time it takes me to text someone. I could have just called them direct and said it verbally several times over.
I'll only text someone if I know they arent able to use their phone due for example my son is in class. and then only if I need to get him a message right away.
I find very few things are that important

No, as a matter of fact we chose our carrier based on the fact they could disable 'texting' altogether.  I do not see the point in 'texting'.  If I need to get a hold of someone I call them.

Me neither, I see it as passing notes under the desk in school. My texting is disabled as well.

BTW, while driving this morning I thought hey if people are texting why not make it really simple and use more code and then have a program that translates that back to text. That way all you have to do is press one button and then send.

Addendum: No new ideas, They already have that. No millions for me.
