My childhood friend from the late 60's
« on: July 19, 2009, 10:43:44 AM »
I thought I'd share this with some friends here on AH OT:

I grew up on a 160 acre farm in Minnesota from 1967 until 1978 (with a 2 year stint in NJ from '72-'74). The Walstads were our "neighbors" that lived about a 1/4 mile away, on their own 60 acre tract.

Desiree, Denise, Monica and Mike (aka "Butch") were the kids. My two sisters and I , along with the Walstad kids were best friends. When I was 15, the Walstad family moved to WA state, and I've seen the girls once, back in 1980, a year after I moved out to WA state.

Butch and I used to do alot of camping on our properties, setting trap lines for wild mink, fox, and Muskrat, then skin, tan and sell them to a local feed store. We had "BB gun wars" with some other neighbor boys who shared a property line with the Walstads. Good times growing up. I should have hooked up with Mike and the girls sooner, I have no excuse except they live 2 hours North of here.

Last night after 33 years, (I saw him last when I was 16) I finally got to see Butch again at his place in Snohomish, WA.

We "recreated" the picture snapped of us in 1969 in front of our barn, posing with my Dad's boat. We didn't have the boat prop, so we used his tree cutting service truck.:

With a name like Walstad he would have to come from Minnesota. I'll bet the original spelling was Valstad. Darn census.

So, who has the most hair these days. Which one is you?

BTW you both look better than me and I think that is just awesome!  :salute

Seeing this gives me nostalgia.

I wish my childhood friend did not decide to forget about us.  If I knew his wherabouts I would try to get a hold of him.  Sad.
