Carrier aircraft absent from AH
« on: August 26, 2001, 11:46:00 PM »
Not counting missing versions of airframes we already have, here is a quick list of carrier aircraft that are not yet in AH.

United States

F4F Wildcat (Main USN fighter until the arrival of the Hellcat in 1943)
SBD Dauntless (USN dive bomber at the time of US entry)
TBD Devastator (Obsolete USN torpedo bomber at the time of US entry)
SB2C Helldiver (Disappointing USN dive bomber)

Japanese
D3A "Val" (Main Japanese dive bomber, obsolete by mid-1942)
D4Y Suisei "Judy" (Replacement dive bomber for the D3A)
B5N "Kate" (Obsolete Japanese torpedo bomber)
B6N Tenzan "Jill" (Japanese torpedo bomber entering service in 1943)
B7A "Ryusei "Grace" (Carrier ready, but never flew off of a carrier)

United Kingdom
Firefly (British carrier strike aircraft, first British aircraft over Tokyo)
Fulmar (Obsolete heavy fighter entering service in 1940)
Roc (Obsolete turreted British fighter)
Sea Hurricane (Navalized version of the Hurricane)
Skua (Obsolete British dive bomber)
Swordfish (Obsolete, but stunningly successful, British torpedo bomber)

Germany
Bf109T (Navalized version of the Bf109E, never flew off of a carrier)
Ju87 (Navalized version produced, never flew off of a carrier)

I dont want a 109T or Naval Ju87 in AH.

However on a historical point the few 109Ts built did see use in Norway operating from land bases.

I would like to see, in no particular order, the following carrier aircraft:

F4F Wildcat
SBD Dauntless
D4Y Suisei "Judy"
B6N Tenzan "Jill"
B7A Ryusei "Grace"
Firefly
Swordfish

GRUNHERZ,

Heh.  I really only put those in the list to preempt and mollify the more rabid of the Luftwaffe fans.

Heh- I doubt if many of us "rabid Luftwaffe fans" want navalized versions of the 109 or stuka.  I'd be happy with the regular version of the Stuka, other than that I'm fairly happy with the planes that Germany's got.

I'd love to see the F4F and some of the earlier Japanese planes.  They wouldn't see any use in the MA, but they'd make for great CT fights- I'd head over there for it.

I'd disagree with it being obsolete at the early stages of the war.
I also believe that the 109, and Ju87 should not be navalised in AH mostly because the Germans never had operational carrier wings.

If I had the power I'd include:

 F4F
 Val
 Kate
 SBD

 Tronsky
486 Sqn (NZ), "Hiwa hau Maka"

have to agree if LW carrier designed planes never flew off a carrier there would be no reason to include them.

I still think we should only get aircraft that saw action.Id rather see a 109E,normal Stuka,or any other LW aircraft that saw action before i demand any carrier based one.

If we just expand the japanese carrier planes i'll happily use those.

i've said it before and ill say it again  :D SWORDFISH IN AH!!!!!

And don't forget to include the FM2, buts thats really just a late model F4F.

Any of you ever looked at the speed of the B7A2 Grace? For a torpdeo bomber the thing was damn fast. Over 90 mph faster than the TBF.

Probably the best pure torpedo bomber that was made during WWII. (Yes, I know torpedo bombers and Dive Bombers were tactically obsolete before the end of the war  :) )

I personaly would rather see the Jill and Judy, plus the Dauntless before any other IJN planes are added.  Those two types were much more common than the Grace was.  We get those, and the SBD, we have ourselves a complete CV air wing for the 2 sides and can do some great CV battles as scenarios (provided that the CV's are beefed up in terms of the amount of damage they will take).

I am all for beefing up the PTO planeset (it is my fav).  IMO, I would hope that the CV planes are added first, then the army planes (i.e. Frank, Ki-100).  We could get some good scenarios that other people might like (remember, not everyone is a USAAF/RAF/Luftwaffe fan).  Some of us would like to see a good CV battle set up.
