Well, My Bonafides is in the photos, where's yours?  I've caught thousands of steelhead and salmon over my lifetime... You?
In a mixed run environment, I can tell what kind of fish they are by the strike, without even seeing them, You?

Seems to me, that my gift of "hyperbole", is far surpassed buy your gifts of abject Boobery!!!

Behavior and outward physical traits do not a genome make, sir.  Acting like they do, won't make it true.

How many microsatellite tags have you looked at?  Using BAC or other?  Is the genome highly polymorphic?

Thanks guys, that is a nice summer run steelie.. But you guys would really get a kick out of one of the "Big Daddy" fish...

This is my youngest son, on a trip to Gold River, on the west side of Vancouver Island.. Deep in the canyon, gotta be
a bit of a rockclimber as well as a fisherman... Dangerous going, but the rewards are great!!!

Now this is BigDaddy himself, a trophy springer buck, about 30lbs worth of him.. Early March of 07, nailed a humpybomb
on a 3ft 14lb test leader... He's a 3spawn fish, probably 12 years in the salt water... The best of the best... Tough as nails,
about an Hour long struggle.. He tried every trick in the book, heading downstream, taking major yardage off my reel, then
cutting HARD upstream, creating a huge belly in my line.. I'm reelin in the slack like a madman, when he clears the water for
a triple gainer with a twist... It was awesome, he was tailwalkin, ppl on the bank Whoopin and Hollerin, LOL!!!

Some trophies on their walls too... Its a lucky thing, when you can make part of your living, doing what you would normally do for fun anyway...

Trip to Gold River eh? Wich river did ya fish? Heber is usualy good above the canyons, gold is decent in general, best above second bridge. The Muchulat is pretty decent near the A-Frame. Normaly I fish the Oktwanch though, caught some beauties in there a few years ago. Best Steelhead and Salmon fishing in the world here.

Hey guys, yeah, Vancouver Island has so much good water that I couldn't cover it all in a million yrs... ALL HAIL THE PINK WORM :pray  LOL!!!
Up there, I'm just a Yank on foreign territory tho.. A local would know places that I could never find....  Just like me around the Forks/Olympics area...

My gear, personally I use Loomis baitcast (steelhead) rods, 10.5>12 ft long, ultralight or light action... Stiffer for heavier water!
Right now, a Quantum reel, can't remember the model# off hand... It'll hold several hundred yds of 12 lb line.. Less for heavier line naturally...
Have to make sure ya have enough, in case they try to spool ya.. Hate when they do that, Kings mostly, head downstream and go, fat lazy bastards LOL!!!
Using my #2 Rod/Reel right now because I went for an unintentional swim last February... Lost my favorite set up.... Dammit!!!

In winter,
The heaviest line I use is 16lb test mainline.. With 2lb lighter leader.. Stainless BB swivels, Hollow core lead crimped to the tag end of the leader...
Double over the leader Tagend before ya crimp, for a better hold... Less stuff to carry that way, as opposed to solid core and Surgical tube...
And it still releases well enough if snagged, so ya don't have to tie a new rig... Slinkies are just too much trouble, and I don't care for the feel...

Summer,
I delete the whole swivel arrangement and just use splitshot.. Less crap to scare the fish... You know how picky they get in clear water!!!!
Lighter line of course for the same reason...  Maxima line exclusively.... Easy to work with, very transparent, good abrasion resistance...

Bait, I use all artificial... Corkies/yarn, Homemade Humpybombs in various colors, or streamers in low clear water... Spinners catch too many trout...
Size and color, Depends on conditions... Which vary so much, I could write all night about it without covering it all...

Fly set ups, from 4>8wt depending on where I'm fishing... Usually wet, shooting heads... Dark streamers, black/brown ostrich feather...

And it ALL depends on if I'm in the sled, driftboat, or humpin the bank...

Good to see some other guys who know the "deal"...

Hey Rip

I use a 2 prong approach, either fly rod or float rod.

 I have a loomis center pin and a 12'6" "noodle rod,it's a st.croix blank rated to 6lbs max.
Ofcourse I use abit heavier mainline, think 10lb but thats around 600 yds, tried 12 and it was abit stiff. Then I tie on a leader of less than 6lb test so I dont break the rod....LOL been there done that!

as for flyrods, well I have from 3wt to 10wt,with acouple of 5wts and a couple of 8wts.I use alot of those west coast flies, eggsucking leech is a fav but my goto fly would be a wooly bugger.Thats if I'm hitting steelies or salmon.
We have a blue ribbon brown river nearby and well it's catch release only,so they're picky but a #18-20 caddis will bring them up.

I envy you, living out there and if my health was better I'd be there fishing with ya. :aok

LOL, yeah I've broken a few rods, usually when I hook into something bigger than intended...
My wife likes to fly cast for the native rainbows, cutties, and Dollies in the creek at the N border
of our property.. And Loves to horse pack up to the high meadow lakes for those little Golden Trout..
She's kinda fearfull of the big water, so she stays away from it.. Truthfully, I'm really glad of that..
If something happened to her It'd kill me... She lands some rightious fish tho..

Brownies are supposed to be great fish too, good sized.. Not native to my area, so they are
viewed by many as a bit of a plague.. I hear that they tend to wipe the out native species by
eating the smolts... Oh man, that would be a nightmare around here!!!  Also someone, at sometime
transplanted Tiger Muskies into some of the bigger lakes around here too.. They are wiping out
some of the Kokanee, (landlocked coho) populations.. Sad!!!  Somebody's stupid Idea!!!
Wish they would just leave well enough alone, messin with the natural order is never good...

Going to a family reunion this weekend at Gateway, (Mt Rainier)... Geee Fun!!!  After I say
Hi to all the ppl that I hardly know, I'm gonna try to sneak away to do a little trout fishing
in Cat creek, or the Tilton river.. Don't get over that way very much anymore... Wife isn't
gonna like it when I throw fishing gear in the 4runner, LOL!!!

If ya ever get out this way Morf, I'd take ya fishin.. Get ya out on the Jetsled, ppl always
get a real kick outta that...

Hey Rip THX for the offer, and ya never know,I have family out in BC.

I hear ya on the browns and for that matter the transplanting of any nonnative fish!

The browns were brought over from Europe in the 1800's so they're here to stay, actually the river I mentioned did support cold water fish for years but a dam and the coldwater discharge changed that and 20 odd years ago they started this program. Now we have 24 to 30 inch browns reproducing naturally and people travel form all over to fish it.

The closest I get to the fish you take for granted..LOL,,are greatlake salmon and steelies. We have coho,Chinooks and pinks with good spring and fall runs of trout.

Ya a few years back I broke an old Fenwick, luved that rod but the shinnie I hooked was abit much for it and it exploded in my hand...That and a couple floatrod have met their maker,I keep a shrine for those broken rods and never let my sage flyrods see them.... :rofl :rofl :rofl
