Bugger of all Bugs
« on: July 27, 2009, 06:07:56 PM »
Anyone that has ever driven a GV knows this one. Planes that dont have a prayer of killing tanks will strafe them and get credit for the kill. Its irritating for the GVs and guys that are dropping legitimate bombs on the same vehicles. I think a solution should be found but I would like to know that everyone agrees.

I will be totally honest this wish/report is driven by my desire to get more credit in tanks and aircraft alike but also it is driven to stop the DWEEBS that steal the attack category by shooting tanks and then asking their teammates to kill the GVs (by tank round) so they can move up in rank. Vulching GVs at a spawn point is wonderful (I believe) if you legitimately drop bombs on them or shoot 20mms into M8s M16s or M3s but I think 20mm against a Tiger is a non-starter and its time this bug went away.

Agree/disagree?

Agreed (even though I'm one of the strafers)...even if the gv is smoking it shouldn't be anything more than an assist when someone else delivers the fatal blow.

One of the very few things that do really annoy me.

In the air, all evens out over time. Sometimes you get an assits when you remove a wing, sometimes you get home with all ammo spent and suddenly getting a kill credit for the buff you didn't seem to have hurt at all, while seeing "WTF? Assist only" by someone on countrychannel. ;)

But with GV's it's all different. For the dedicated & occasional GV guys alike its utterly frustrating slugging it out with undamaged enemy M4's while getting assist after assist, because strafing P-51's are "helping you"

Not sure if there is really a fix, but I do agree that it would be nice to change it. :aok

Ya its annoying. Ive had mustangs shoot their MGs at tanks Ive been working with the 37mm cannon of my IL2s.

Now why would you do that? Some who do are not new players.

Personaly if I see another plane, or a tank, get an enemy GV smoking I'll let them finish it. Or at least ask before shooting. Many times Ive just left the tank alone and let somebody else kill it.

Some are doing it deliberately... but most are of the "i don't have a clue and I won't listen" category.

I remember one specific instance:
I was out there in a tank, trying to protect a town. My side was completely outnumbered, so of course my calls for help were unanswered while a enemy Gv mission started to roll in.
And there he was. A "vet", in his P-51. Circling overhead and strafing the tanks. I begged him to get at least in a plane that could actually hurt those tanks. "Why, I kill tanks this way all the time". When I popped a few of them and he got the kills he was completely convinced he did kill em. He never really listened to me.
One of the rare instances I really freaked out. He was really offended, because "Dude I'm just helping you. There are like 11 of them out there".

The only time I'll shoot at any ground vehicle with .50s or 20mms are Osties and flak panzies to take out their turret and then I fly off.  I don't care if I get the kill or not nor is my intent to steal anyone's kill.  It's just that if I'm in the area where there is an Ostie or flak panzie and I can make a run to take out its turret I will.  Once I get the turret smoking, if it's still alive I'll leave it for someone in a tank or another plane to finish off.

Pyro has admitted that the issue lies in the tracks. They soak up ungodly amounts of damage (especially splash damage from cannon rounds) and are the cause of the problem.

What they're doing about it, who knows.

Last night when I was bored in the MW, I upped a T-34 and drove it to A9 (Baltic map).  While on my way there, a Spitfire Mk I tried 4 times to strafe me (4th time it crashed into me) with its .303 caliber machine guns.  As I got closer to A9, two A6M5s tried to get me with their 20mm and machine guns (one of them also augered) and finally, 3 F6F's trying to repeatedly strafe me as I sat on the hillside taking out A9's field guns.  After that, 2 Wildcats (F4F and FM-2) tried strafing me with machine guns.  Even a D3a got into the act and tried strafing after it missed with its bombs.  The funny thing was, not one IL2 upped to attack me.  I was finally killed when I got hit by a Tiger.

I couldn't help but wonder what these guys were thinking, there was no way in hell they were going to hurt me with their machine guns or 20mm rounds.

Oh yes, I agree!!!
I guess I can forgive a noob, but when vets are doing it intentionally, (even when I ask them nicely to quit), I just drive my tank into the town, tower and go elsewhere...
Let them take care of it themselves...

On the other hand, when I'm out clubbin gv's with my A20.. My fellows are waiting by the maproom for the gv's, I kill 2 or 3, then I point'em out for my gv buddies...
Even tho I have ord remaining, I don't hog up all the kills... And I definately don't straffe em up... To me, thats no class, lowbelly gameplay...

Just the way I feel about it!!!

I agree Chalenge. Pretty frustrating.

I hate it because I'm a horrible shot in a GV. If I hit someone, I want the kill.
