Stutters and pauses in the new version.
« on: July 28, 2009, 05:48:01 PM »
Thanks for the new release HTC!

I'm experiencing heavy stuttering and pauses with other planes around, something that I didn't experience with the beta. While I did have stutters in the beta, they weren't anything like they are now. Disabling detailed terrain didn't really cure this problem, but it might have lessened it to a degree. It looks like one cause might be tracers/firing guns, either own or someone elses. Reading the Ch200 it seemed others were experiencing similar issues aswell.

Processor: Athlon 64 3500+
Typical Beta Frame-rate: 10-40
Typical Frame Rate in normal AH in comparable situation and settings: 35-85
Video Card: Ati Radeon HD3650 AGP
Amount of Video Memory: 512mb
Amount System Memory: 1024mb
Operating System: Windows XP SP3
DirectX version as reported by DXDIAG (see other stuck post for DXDIAG instructions): DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
In the beta under the frame-rate readout are "VidMem" and "Used" numbers.  Please report both of these numbers.: 592,2mb/137mb
Did you install the optional hires package?: Yes
In the Aces High video setup, what is your anti-aliasing set to?: Two notches of AA
In the Aces High graphics options advanced menu, do you have self shadowing on?: No

- Tested with both detailed water and detailed terrain enabled/disabled.

I have an overclocked NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+, and I was able to run all the Beta versions, with great results the last three patches. Unfortunately I too had many difficulties today, and I had to go back and re-tweak my system. This is what I found that helped me; if your using a dual core AMD CPU, you need to right click your game launch icon on your desktop and click on the compatibility tab and select Windows 98/SE for the mode to use. If your using a video card below my version you should under game preferences uncheck all except Detailed Terrain. This will put you back to what you were used to using in the old version. Also I suggest in your video card's settings turn off anti-aliasing and the same under preferences in the game. Once again if your using an AMD dual core processor, and your video card allows it, ( such as mine), there is a setting that enables dual core processing for Direct X games. Turn this off. If your using a higher resolution such as 1280 X 1024 with the Hires pack, before you log into the game click on Video Settings on the clipboard and set the Max Texture Size from 1024 to 512. Now my only problem that I hope the next patch fixes is getting booted when using vox. Working together we can continue playing this game together.
