gunsight lines stretching
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:48:40 PM »
I've been using the same gunsight ever since the transparent sights were introduced and never had one issue with it in all this time until the update.

When I am zoomed all the way back in my seat, the mil horizontal ticks stretch out to the bottom of the gunsight reflector.

When I zoom in the gunsight is okay without any corruption.

It happens on both of my systems but since this is the one I primarily use for playing AH, I'll list this computer specs instead.

WinXP SP3
Core 2 Duo 6420 OC'd to 3.0Ghz
2G RAM
ATI HD3850 512meg w/Catalyst 9.7 drivers @1440x900x32bit
AA: Application Controlled
AF: Application Controlled
Catalyst AI disabled
DirectX 9c

Top image shows the stretching horizontal mil bars.  Sorry the gunsight image is hard to see but that was something I also forgot to mention. The sight is now really faint, it used to be a deep orange color but after the update it's very hard to see.  Even if I move the seat forward, the sight becomes a little more visible but the color is definitely lost.  The stretching horizontal mil bars will also disappear if I move the seat forward a little bit.

A few other people were mentioning they had this problem as well when their sights also worked without any problems prior to the update.

It looks like it could be one of these two.

Try this one and see what happens. It's in a larger format and Orange

Right click/save as......then find on your hard drive where you saved it....then copy and paste into your sights fold.  Once AH is loaded, change it to the plane you want it to be shown in using the gun sight option.

It's one of the ones I made long ago. When I made it I made sure there wasn't a colored pixel at the border, but someone may have modified it over the years.

It's a custom sight I've been using ever since the transparent gunsights were introduced, been using the same gunsight for the last 5+ years.

I believe it was the one you made something like 6 years ago and it's never been modified since I've been using it.

Glad its getting fixed. I haven't really noticed it myself.

I'd never seen that sight before. Ack can you tell me why you use it and like? What it does for you etc..? I would love to know. More of help and training question but a question just the same.

Fricken' animephile.

On a different note, the "noskill" gunsight has the same problem, only the extending does not disappear when zoomed in.

Honestly, it's a very good sight and remarkably accurate in gauging target distance from the ticks and range bars, which is really important for me because I don't use tracers.  Visibility is excellent, can clearly see the gunsight with the seat all the way back and against all backrounds.  I don't use the upper portion, so it's perfect for raising the sight and doesn't clutter or obscure your view through the sight.  Not only does it work good for A2A engagements but it's also accurate for ground attacks.

I've tried other sights, some for historical reasons and some others to test out to see how well they work and I always end up coming back to the one you made.
