22 inch Wide Settings? Anyone share theirs?
« on: July 29, 2009, 03:05:30 PM »
I cannot get the right settings for playing the new version of Aces High 2.

Problems:
1. I see two installations of Aces High in Add/Remove Programs. One is the new version (1.3g) and the other is Aces High 2 (650mb?)

2. When in Video Settings, the settings are correct which are:
1680x1050, AA off, 1024 textures (I have the Hi-Res package installed also)
I then proceed into the game and into the arena. I went to video settings, advanced and checked all but smooth shadows. I then proceeded to go to an airfield, chose a plane and went to take off. I noticed right away some problems. All the Text at the Top (FPS and Voice Com name that pops up in right corner) are all blurry. And in the cockpit, all the instruments are ok to read, but seem to be squished together, like I am not running in wide screen mode. I get good frame rates, 60 - 120fps.
I then exited the game, and went to the ATI Catalyst Control Center to ensure all my settings for AA and AF are set to game controlled and they are.
dxdiag shows no errors.

My System:

Windows XP Home SP3
Asus A8n-e Nforce 4 Motherboard
2 gb DDR1 Memory
AMD Opteron Dual Core Processor (Yes running the game in Win98 compatibility mode)
ATI Radeon HD 3870 512mb Video Card with latest ATI Drivers and Catalist Control Center
22 Inch Hanns-G Wide-Screen LCD Monitor. (Running at 1680x1050 and 60hz) Should I raise the refresh to 75hz?

Any suggestions to clear the blurry text or weird cockpit controls/Indicators?

I ran my resolution at 1280x1024 last night and everything seems fine, except some textures look weird, such as field fires from high look like a blazing x until I get lower alt.

Your monitor won't support 75Hz refresh at resolutions that high...(aside from the fact that Hanns-G monitors are very poor quality).

With a wide screen try 1440x900 at 75Hz and see what that does.

*edit* just noticed that blurb about Win98 mode...I don't do that and I don't have any issues with blurring or bizarre textures...but then I'm only running 512 textures.

And try not to double post...doesn't get good results.

Yeah, I know the feeling.

I thought you tried the lower settings last night?
