Rules of Engagement??
« on: December 25, 2000, 03:04:00 PM »
All sides do it, so this is not a criticism of one side...but I've started to notice something that I'm sure has always been, but I've just not noticed.  Two sides always seem to fight on one front only, ignoring each other and ganging up on the third side.  The victim is never the same, it seems to rotate quite evenly.  My question is...are their secret meetings I'm not invited to?  How is it decided who gets gang-banged?  Just curious.

I often see it as whoever has the most players online gets gangbanged.  Knight's usually have the most when I am online (apart from the last month, Xmas day excluded).  Other times if a side is low on fields and players then they often turn their attention to the other side.

On the beta map the country in the SE corner usually is the one taking the beating.  Their fields in the west are farther apart and more difficult to defend than the other countries.

Knights sure do seem to get more than their fair share recently though.  I think it's backlash from when Knights had more people online on a regular basis than the other countries.

Ripsnort says it best:  "Its our night to be in the bucket"  Meaning, of course, that whoever has the least players just gets steam-rolled on two fronts.

Now if you are a member of the team getting pulverized, its frustrating in two regards...

1.  If you get tired of being pounded to death repeatedly and change sides, some of your team mates feel this is the ultimate betrayal.  Suddenly its not a game anymore, but a reflection of how you are in real life and quite frankly, there are some names I could mention but won't, but some folks really get downright abusive and offensive.

2.  I have yet to see people voluntarily leave a team to go to the team with the least members to even the fight out.  We seem to love to kick the little guys around and don't give a damn about it until its our team being put over the barrel and porked

First of all, I have no allegence to any one team.  I've enjoyed playing on all the teams and there are some great pilots/players in each that I enjoy working with to acheive a goal.  But boy, if I leave Knights to play on Bish for a few days, I get some real nasty comments spit at me.  And at this point, I just chuckle and go my merry way.

Furthermore, many times I jump teams is because the team work simply isnt there.  Perfect example is last night while playing for Knights.  We had 20 some odd players, and if we all put our heads together and fought for one base (A1), we'd have our foot in the door for other bases.  Nope.  As soon as we got a consensus to go after this base, someone gets really pissy and demands we go after A2.  So, now we are arguing which base is most important to get, everyone is getting annoyed, and while all of this is going on, we're getting steamrolled left and right.  We lost 4 or 5 guys to this lack of teamwork right off.  Some wanted to just let the base die (and reset) while a handful wanted to press on with a last ditch effort.  Frankly, I was so ticked at the morons I was playing with, I logged and played some great tank warfare in a game someone was hosting in H2H.

And I really think we need a seperate arena for the 2-week trial folks.  I'm really tired of the SPAM/Flood messages and also tired of having to teach someone how to play Aces High since they were too lazy to read the website.  Furthermore, Its really annoying to see the chatter of "How expensive is this?" and the "Thats too freaking much" blah blah blah.  I pay for this service, I'd rather only play with folks who pay for it too.  Let the cheap bastards play in a room with other cheap bastards and whine and complain to someone who cares

I kind of got on a tangent here, but I needed to vent.  I love the game, and that is what it is.  But the atitude towards players who opt to change sides is pretty lame, and it would be nice to see some more effort at sportsmanship in here.

Overall the gaming experience here is very good, but when its sour, its very bitter.

To answer the original question, no, there are no secret meetings, as is obvious from the above. How is it decided who gets gang-banged? It isn't. It's just the ebb and flow of battle. Sometimes what you see when you come online is the continuation of small skirmishes that started well before you showed up, when the numbers online were much different than they are when you get there. Sometimes a base capture close to the HQ will turn the whole thing around.

In my entire experience, I have only heard one guy suggest that we make a pact with another country. He was totally ignored.

People go where the radar bars on the map are the largest. That's really the extent of the thought that goes into this stuff.

1.Squelch channel 1

2.Shoot EVERYTHING RED and Le Paul.

Sorry Le Paul, the devil made me do it.
I will fly with you anytime you are Knight.

I think {hope} you realized I was just ribbing ya last night about the switch but I know some people are less tolerant of switchers and your ire is justified.

I have never been on when we were so close to being totally wiped off the map and actually enjoyed it for awhile, I pretended I was at the Alamo.

When I left we were still alive and were still today in the same part of the map so I figured they {the Rooks and Bishops} just finally learned their lesson and went home to lick their shee...err wounds or, if there was a reset, Hitech rewarded Knights  for being so tough by sticking us back in the weakest part of the playpen.

I usually try to resist the feeding frenzy of a gangbang and hit the stronger side or the Bishops, whichever is the Bishops.

Every side gets ganged sometimes and the solution is fight to the end or log off, I guess.

The 2 week trial guys are about the only ones left who attack my B17 from 6 oclock, let'm stay.

When did they put this thing in here and WTF is it for?

I watched the Christmas Eve battle too.

When I got on, my Bishops were on the verge of taking the last three or so fields from the beat down Knights.  I went Rook, because they needed the help.

I logged on and off for the rest of the night doing various things, but when I finnally quit in the wee hours of the morning, Rooks had the entire northern half of the map, and the knights reclaimed almost all of their home fields.

I think the giant mountain in the center has something to do with it.  There is a big 20,000 foot barrier keeping the sides from each other.

Also, there was that feeling of pity for the Knights I bet.  Nobody was enthusiastic about whiping them out and winning the war.

Now, with the perk plane system added in 1.05 we should see some difference in the way the game is played.  You get points for winning the war, and you get cheap or free perk planes when greatly outnumbered.  That ought to do something to the game.

Hans.

Hehehe, great post, Sun...you're right..only the newbies line up directly behind you and try to sneak a shot in real close.  I suppose they envision those WW2 flicks of the Krauts tearing up B-17s at close range.

I really really try to hold my fire on them, waiting to see just HOW close they will go before firing.

Im just glad we do not know who the enemy player is until after that player has been shot down...otherwise 2/3's of you folks would ignore the rest and try to hunt me down! hehe

But I digress....

I don't know, maybe its the fact this map has gotten old so very quick...whoever sits in the lower right is assured a hearty pasting.

I think you misunderstood me the other night LePaul.  It was a heat of battle thing, and I was a little perturbed that you decided to switch sides and defend the same place that you were just attacking when Sunchaser and I were on the way there to help you out.  Anyway, the turncoat jabs were just that, jabs.  They were meant to be lighthearted and funny but then again its so hard to express that in written words.

Believe me I know the frustration of flying goons for folks who dont care whether you live or die.  Everybody is quick to call for them but not very quick to cover for them.

Anyway, <S> to you sir, and I will fly with you anytime.....at least until we rotate out next month and become bishops (yechh!!).  Then I will just have to try to shoot you!!

Sling...I understand and you aren't the only one to -vent- in such a manner.  The thing is, its just a game that is so good, it touches a nerve :-)  When the game goes well, you can't let go...when the game isn't going so well, well sometimes we blow off the handle.

But like anything text based, you cant tell who is tongue-in-cheek and who is *really* loosing their marbles.

I enjoy flying in here with lots of people here...I haven't latched myself onto any particular team...read my above post...just don't be so hard if we get tired of eating dirt after being begged to haul troops repeatedly! hehe

Cya!
