Blood of the gages
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:04:22 PM »
I think when you get hit your blood should go on the gages and on the gunsight,so it would obscure vision more.  I don't think this would be to much trouble to implament during their busy schedule.

The blood on the windshield when you are hit is actually a part of the plane's skin.  When the damage model records that a particular part of the plane has been damaged, the regular texture for that part is replaced with the damaged texture.  So for a pilot wound, the regular windsheild is replaced with a bloody one.

What you are asking for would require every gauge, and every panel... in every plane... to have a bloody version.  I just dont see all the textures in the game being redone.   Not to mention, it would mean everyone would have to RE-download all the skins just to impede their vision when they get shot.  No thanks  :D

THIS INFO IS CORRECTED IN A FEW POSTS DOWN...  MY MISTAKE

As for gunsights... those are kept on your local machine... and with all the custom ones out there, there is no way that I can see to make them bloody when the pilot gets wounded.

Not to mention... I personally think the blackouts are bad enough.

I'm 99% sure this is not how it works.

Last time I looked at it, there were image files in the skins folder for each aircraft for blood splatters.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Hehee.... I stand corrected.  The blood textures are separate... they are just in the same file.  When you download a default skin it puts them in the folder with the skin specific to that plane.

Should have checked before I typed.

For the record... holes are the same...

But... it would still be a major pain to implement, since they would now have to code the blood textures to show up everywhere.  Each gauge IS a different texture.

Or simply using one transparent plane over the gauges which gets bloody when necessary.

Rather see fire in the cockpit added... Wonder how these guys keep flying  these flaming planes when they should be
shriveling up like a flaming Johnsonville Brat on a BBQ... Especially the Zeke, but any plane... Didn't take long for a
fuel fire, fanned by a 300mph slipstream, to burn thru beercan metal.. LOL!!!

But they just keep flyin, like nothing is happening... Its dorky!!!

On that note... shouldn't we be able to (at least in multi engine planes) cut the fuel to the burning engine, and kill it in an attempt to put out the fire?  Then at least we would have a chance to limp home?

Engines don't burn, just fuel tanks.

Ahhh.... gotcha.  Always thought it was the engine burning. (or rather that the fire was IN the engine cowling)

Engines do burn, fuel systems on engines get hit, splatter fuel all over... FLAME ON!!!
And even worse, some big radials had Magnesium engine crankcases, DOUBLE NASTY FIRES!!!

Don't mean to be contradictory, but its true!!!

They are talking about in game engines. In AH the only thing that catches fire is fuel.
