P-82/F-82"Twin Mustang"

I know the P-82 have two cockpits...I am well aware of this. But it would be cool to have another twin engine fighter on the game. F-82 Twin Mustang was the last American piston-engine fighter ordered into production by the United States Air Force. Based on the P-51 Mustang, the F-82 was originally designed as a long-range escort fighter in World War II, however the war ended well before the first production units were operational, so its postwar role changed to that of night-fighting. Radar-equipped F-82s were used extensively by the Air Defense Command as replacements for the P-61 Black Widow night fighter.

The fact that you know it is post war should have stopped you from posting this in the first place.  There are plenty of twins from WWII, some even American, that could be added.

Is a Merlin that much larger than the P38 engine (Allison V-1710)? Would have been interesting to see a 38 with THOSE type of twins

i beive the p-38 was fitted with a beefier version of the allison engines in the p-40. the rolls-royce merlin was used in the p-51d because the allison in the b model could only get the bird up to hieghts of around 20,000 ft. the merlin could get the d model up to 40,000 ft. it also increased the rate of climb, and speed.

P-51B is powered by a Merlin as well.  P-51 and P-51A were Allison powered.

Just saying "Merlin" or "Allison" doesn't tell us much.  The version of each is needed and information about its super charger or turbo charger, if it had one.  For example, the Merlin II in a Spitfire Mk I producing about 1,030hp and a Merlin 113 from a Hornet produces about 2,100hp.

Most P-82s were Allison powered. Only the first 20 were fitted with Merlins. The bulk of that order was canceled.

Lockheed did a study. It turns out that a Merlin equipped P-38 would have been heavier, had a reduced climb rate, and reduced range.
