Where were you during the beta test?
« on: August 01, 2009, 11:57:29 PM »
there was a beta version, a beta arena, and a beta forum for a month before the release..

many times I logged in and was either alone, or damn near it..  5 or fewer people..

Sooo..  alot of people now are upset about the requirements?  suddenly can run the game..  lives interrupted, families destroyed..

You could have gone in the beta arena.. and tried the test version, the DEVs were in there alot, taking info and bug reports live on the spot from us..  you could have logged in, seen how your system reacted the problems you had.. and added your data for them to work with.

If you did, and did what was necessary to meet the new requirements (which are still low even by gaming standards 2 years ago). And posted about your bugs in the beat forum, and now upon final release are still unable to play due to severe glitching..   Well I understand if You are upset.. of course considering the VERY low level of participation in the beta.. there are VERY few people this applies to.

If you ignored the beta, did not participate, and did not make any preparations for what YOU HAVE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME was coming..

Well, You really have no excuse to whine.

No amount of "Beta testing" from extremely low end users would have fixed the current graphics problem that we have, except to come to the conclusion that we have to dump any semblance of detail just to keep FR up.

Wonderful!

Because by this very logic I have every excuse to whine, as I was in beta, I reported issueas and on top of that. Beta ran better then final 2.14

Will start to flood the forum with new whine threads now!

and anyone who would have gone in the beta arena would have realized that instantly, and could have made the proper and usually inexpensive upgrades needed to cope with the new version..   but many didnt, and are now acting as though in shock that their commadore 64 no longer runs the game maxed out.

You do have a good excuse to whine then, but many of the people whining the loudest are the ones who did absolutely nothing to prepare for the new release.

There is no way the extremely poor participation in the beta isnt to blame for alot of the problems cropping up now..

their commadore 64 no longer runs the game maxed out.

I always ran the game at the lowest detail setting, even before this update. The graphics were, literally, 10x better than they are now. It is hard to describe all of the things that have taken a hit.

There are currently 3 colors present on my terrain. Green, tan (beach), and blue. Nothing in between. And they are all blobs.

The reason there was no one in the beta is because there was no actual demand for an upgrade apart from the passing musings of forum fan-boys.

If there was demand for the upgrade then people would have been there.

10 seconds in the beta arena would have made it apparent to anyone if they needed an upgrade or not.

on a good system it looks much better than it did before, and a poor system it looks much worse..   not surprising at all.   in order to make it look better, they had to adapt it for newer technologies, leaving the outdated ones behind...   You cant drive a V12 and get 40 miles per gallon.

couldent help it.

This sort of thing happens, they change something to address and issue, and it causes an unforeseen side effect..  happened in the beta a few times..

Like I said, if more people than just the handfull of us participated in the beta, probably alot of these teething issues being seen now would not be popping up.

leaving the outdated ones behind...

And what they have now for low end users is not outdated technology, but completely non-existent technology.

Listen, I understand that HTC felt like improving the game, but regressing the graphics for low end users is not exactly an ideal way to do that.

I logged into the beta the first day to check it out and to try the I-16 and Brewster.  It mostly worked fine.  There were a lot of people in the beta while I was there but after logging out I didn't really see a need to log back into it every day (or ever again for that matter).
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

exactly, on day one IO saw over 50 people in, by day 3 I never saw more than 10. Problem is, unlike your situation,  Many people popped in the first day, had problems, and insted of sticking with it or trying to contribute, they just left.. and ignored it.. and now act surprised.

I played the BETA and made a few remarks and did contribute . Listen guys it is a world game and time must be allowed to fix and repair things , code work is not easy and if you really look at this on the whole , many programs don't run on older systems at all and for those of you with high end systems be patient as it will work out .
                    Nutte :salute
Don't be afraid to put it out there , if it gets cut off it'll grow back
On your mark , Get set , go away !
