He did not get shot in Stalingrad he lived round the corner from me in a pie shop. His mum went bingo with my cousin

why did michael Jackson family not do the same as the Russians and put a look alike on stage, all that money would of not been lost and all those returned tickets.
I had three tickets for London Jackson gig but I swapped them early on for a old pair of socks and a half eaten sausage :O
There are no pies stored in this plane overnight

Everyone here should probably know of Vasily Zaytsev the great Russian Sniper of Stalingrad that killed hundreds of Germans soldiers, and multiple German Snipers. The man who insired other Russians to fight on in Stalingrad. Well the other day me and my friend were playing Red Orchestra when he told me that Vasily Zaytsev was not just 1 guy, but many Russian Snipers! He said that the original Vasily Zaytsev was killed in action in Stalingrad, and instead of announcing his death the Russians just made another sniper Vasily Zaytsev. Then he was killed, and they named someone else Vasily, and so on. The Russians just never told anyone the truth about what happened to Vasily and kept it a secret.

I'm not sure if he's making this up (like many others things), or if this is actually true! Anyone know anything about this??

That makes no sence what-so-ever, yes Vasily was W.I.A. at Stalingrad, but at this time, it 1943.  Morale meant nothing in 1943, the battle was won, so they would have no reason to lie.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how we percieve war heroes depending on what our nationality is.

Pappy Boyington for instance. Really, he was a drunk and habitual liar. He claimed kills sight unseen, but because America needed a hero...well....say no more.

Douglas Bader?  Apparently a real SOB and his big wing idea wasn't a great idea for the tactical needs at the time.

But...Each country had thier Audy Murphy, a true hero, and I tend to believe that  Vasily Zaytsev was Russia's.

cheers,

RTR... Really, you should quit watching those old episodes of the "Blacksheep Squadron"....  They were TOTAL BS!!!
The Blacksheep were NOT, scotch swillin, fist fightin, nurse chasin, boobs... About as far from it as can be gotten!!!
Boyington, was actually a hardnosed disciplinarian... As would be expected of a China Marine...
USMC, would never put up with that BS even now... A USMC/NAVY officer, can have you thrown in the brig for sneezing
if they want to..  And that is NO BS!!!  But in those days, things were far tougher, you'd get HUNG, for behavior that
you describe in time of war.. Or thrown in Portsmouth to rot, until noone even remembered that you exist at all...
"They needed a hero"??  HAH, at that time, there were PLENTY of choose from!!!

As far as the Stalinist Regime lieing about VZ, they very well could have!!! (I personally don't think so) BUT???
They spun such MASSIVE BS, about so much, for so many years.. That any info from that era is ALWAYS suspect!!!

Anyone that thinks ANY country is above using propaganda, regarding their so-called heros, for their own purpose needs a severe reality check. Maybe even a check for a heartbeat. Its obvious that brain activity is DEAD.

"heroes" and medals are great recruiting tools and morale boosters. Medals have in the past, and are to this day given out for diplomatic and morale reasons as well as for true bravery in combat.
