Lap top recommendations
« on: August 03, 2009, 08:49:58 AM »
Ok i want some input on a system that will play the game smoothly. Most of my play will be wifi based so it has to have that capability, even though occasionaly i can play hard wired.

Price range would be $1000 to $1500. Also it MUST be an AMD based system! My current laptop is Intel based and suxs to play the game.

So throw some suggestions up and i'll take a look at em. All help greatly appreciated. :aok

As always I'd recommend a desktop before a laptop. Even a desktop can have wireless capabilities.

On the other hand if it does have to be a laptop this one might be a good buy. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101176

Keep in mind you could build something better in desktop form for less then a grand easy.

I wouldn't throw Intel under the bus.  You're problems are most likely memory and/or video chip based.

I just got a Studio 15 and it rocks. I got a Core 2 Duo T6600, Vista (ugh), 1080p monitor (for designing), 4GB RAM, 320gb HDD, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570, but you can get 512 for the game. For 1-1.5 grand you can go crazy.

Just so you know, you can format the hard-drive and install any Windows Operating System of your choice on there. Just be careful, it will probably void your warranty. I Just bought a new Laptop and instead of erasing Vista I repartitioned the Hard Drive using Easus Partition Manager (Thanks BaldEagl!). Afterward I installed Linux on one of the empty partitions then installed Windows XP onto the other. Great deal!

There's basically not much to it.

Just make sure your laptop is

a) Not Acer
b) Has a mobile graphics of GT130 nvidia or HD4650 ATI or preferably higher (cost will skyrocket with higher end options)
c) Has a dual core cpu with minimum of 2 Ghz clock speed. Intel better than AMD.
d) Has a minimum of 2 gigabytes of ram if using Vista
e) Has the option for a free windows 7 update

I just bought my wife a HP nv6 laptop with AMD Turion x2, HD4650 graphics, 4gigs ram and tested AH2 current patch with it.

Every video option set to default, 70fps in tower. Every video option maxed out (except antialiasing) 35fps standing otr and 20fps while firing guns offline. Machine cost about a 1000 bucks.

No doubt!!!  Last month I bought a HP pavillion dv1270us for my wife.. Only fair since I've spent a boatload
of cash on game stuff in the last year... its a 17inch 1440x900res, P8600 2.4Ghz 1066fsb, 4gig of DDR2 800,
320gig HD, 9600M GT Dedicated gfx card, BluRay Multidisc.... eSATA port, HDMI output, Gigabit LAN...
$ 1049 at Newegg brand new, no refurb!   And its upgradable too!!!

It came with Vista Ultimate 64 and all the HP bloatware, but we took it to a good computer guy and he trimmed
all the useless crap away, and tweaked it just a little.. Man, that sucker works GOOD!!! Boots fast, plays Bluerays
on our HDTV, Does everything we throw at it no prob!!!  And yes I tested the game on it, no probs!!!
LOL, no she doesn't play AHII....!   I was just curious if it would run the new version.. It does, just fine!!!

I think it was a great deal, and She's happy as hell with it too!!!

I always recommend cyberpowerpc.com to these threads as that is where I got mine and I know several have PM'ed me saying they have gotten their laptops from them after I recommended them.

Their laptops are all gaming laptops and handle AH very well.  I got mine through them for $747 but they no longer produce my model.  I got it with a dual core AMD, nvidia 7600, 2 GB ram, 15.4" screen, etc.  It runs AH very well with all graphics and high res etc.

With that money that you are willing to spend you can get their higher end laptops with dual core and dual SLI cards.

Go to ASUS's website, under products choose Notebooks.  Once there you can choose the performance level you seeking.  They have some that have scores on 3DMark06 in excess of 14000.  I am thinking if the system/laptop will score at 10k or higher you should be good to go with AH.

Cyberpowerpc has all Intel based systems. Not an option as all my experience with Intel and AH has been bad. :(

Newegg has some that are appealing.

If you are quickly discarding Intel platforms, buy an AMD and be done with it.

Well I can't say that about Intel and AH...AMD on the other hand was a pita with everything else when I had it...BUT to each his own. My wifes ASUS laptop will run EVERYTHING and I just bought it a little over 2 months ago for $701 @ Best Buy (out the door) and it wasn't pre-loaded with a bunch of crap other than Vista Home Premium 64 bit. She has 3GB of RAM with a Dual Core Intel with a 340GB HDD and a lightscribe DVD.

If your current Laptop has an Intel Pentium or Celeron processor it would easily explain your awful experience with Intel. Intel's Duo-Core is a MAJOR step up and more than defeats ANYTHING AMD has to offer.

I am thinking you are talking about the video chip being an Intel video device.  Intel Multi-core Cpu's are far less problematic and also faster, clock for clock, than AMD.

Yes, the Intel video chips are junk.  Yes, laptop companies love that part.  It is CHEAP!
