Missing Skins
« on: August 03, 2009, 10:49:07 AM »
Greetings,
I'm running a VISTA machine, and installed the AH files in the GAMES FOLDER according to the set-up hints here.  The games fine except for a couple of issues.  First, vox is very fuzzy...volume is OK, but the voice quaility is very hard to understand.  Second, even though the game runs, I only have access to default skins...online and offline.

Finally, with the new upgrade, my frame rate is shot...down to 20-40 fps.  I've read through the other threads, and will document my system setup to see if I need new hardware or new settings.

Thanks for the help.

A DXDIAG output would go a long way in helping to diagnose the issues.

I've noticed a few people reading my question.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the plane skins don't show up and about the fuzzy vox?  Thanks!

If there are not skins in the list in the hangar, it is because you have not been online long enough to get the list of skins available.

If the skins are listed in red, it simply means the skins have not been installed.  You can grab the skins from the WEB page, if you are in a hurry to get them, but the hangar list of skins is only available online.

With your video card, I would disable the "Detailed Terrain" option in the Options->Graphic Details->Advanced panel, set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256, in the game's "Video Settings", and go from there.

As far as "fuzzy" goes, what resolution are you running the game at (located in "Video Settings")?

Hitch - if you played AH before the upgrade, your skins will be available in the former location ie c:\program files\htc\aces high\skins (I know your running vista so it shouldn't be there, just an example). You can copy and paste them into the skins folder for the new installation. You can do this for your settings etc as well, plus sounds.

If you didnt have a previous install, you'll need to d/l them, or let it auto d/l ingame (which will give you only the current approved skins (reduces the number of skins on your system etc)

Vox - make sure you have enabled your mic in sound properties etc, and tune to yourself to check it sounds ok. There is a check box under the advanced settings for your mic to add 1db extra, which may clear it up (I'm on xp tho, unsure if vista differs).

thanks so much for the help.  I've got some ideas to go on now.  I think a new video card is in order, since I'd like to be able to see everything the upgraded AH has to offer.

The skins show up in red.  I downloaded several skins from the website, they showed up in the hanger in black, but didn't allow me to click on them for some reason.  I'll check again to see if I did it right.  If I turn on the auto-downloader for skins, will they go into the AH Game Folder that I set up outside the Program Folder?

My voice vox sounds very fuzzy only in AH.  The volume is OK, it's just that you can't understand what I'm saying, (which isn't really a bad thing according to my squadmates). Outside of AH in Vista OS, my voice sounds fine.  I'll make those suggested adjustments and see if it helps.  I don't have a sound card installed...would that help?  Thanks again.

If you turn on the autodownloader, I believe they go to the correct folder as per your installation (I use the default locations for install, and the new install location on my end is C:\Aces High or somesuch, ie, not in the program files)

If you manually copy the skins/sounds/settings across it should be easier etc, and should clear up the inability to choose which skin you want.

I'm not missing the skins but the auto download box will not stay checked once you leave the hanger and return

gpwrlzel is right, if you had them before their still there just in the old game, I had the same problem. I had to go into the my APPDATA to retrieve them but was not necessary to paste them. All you previously downloaded skins, gunsights as well as sound packs are there and all will work fine with new version.
