Had it too and so have others Flat. Its been brought up in the Tech and bugs sections. Skuzzy said they are looking into it.

What message?

I disable all advanced graphics except the bump terrain.

I had to bump the gamma to 1.5 due to it seeming dark on my machine, also.

We put a "safety net" in the game for those who were/are experiencing problems accessing the various detail options which kicks off the "Detailed Terrain" option when the frame rate drops too low.

HiTech has already stated he needs to make some changes to it in certain circumstances.  Look for a patch to address this.
