I've been flying the -51B a lot here lately and noticed it rolls at nearly the same speed as an Fw-190. Is it just me seeing this?

Have a look at the NACA tests. (posted on these boards earlier) They show the P-51b outrolls the 190 after approx. 375mph.

The same tests show also that the 190 is badly lacking in roll rate at slow speeds.

Well, what I know about P-51 and Fw190..
Fw190 should be superior roller at slow speeds compared to any P-51 and P-51 should be superior to Fw190 at high speeds. (I don't mean some lousy high speeds, but really high speeds)

The -51B looks like it has the same roll rate as the Fw-190 at 300 mph. Any faster and it rolls faster than the Fw; that's what's showing up on my end. It'll roll at the same rate as any Fw, and above 300 it'll out-roll a Dora. Again, this is what I've seen.

I seem to recall in one of the www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com films they say something about the new ailerons on the B, and how it can outroll all enemy fighters.

Just did a quickie test of roll rate, P-51B vs 190D9 (not the best roller, but both are 1.06 planes).

Took um up to 5000 feet, nose slightly up, then started five rolls, losing altitude and gaining speed as I went. Ended up at 400mph's at the end of the rolls.

Both planes did it in about 11 seconds.

I don't know about the 51B but if the 190-D9 wants to roll in front of my P-47D-R30 I'm a happy camper.
