Gunnery and the new patch
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:14:31 PM »
Hello all.  If you are reading this thread and looking for another complaint about the new patch, you are not gonna see it here so just keep moving (don't want to waste anyone's time).

Ok, now to the topic at hand.  I've always been a horrible shot to begin with but I seem to be really struggling since the new patch.  My frame rate is good (between 50 and 60) and have not notice any lagging or stuttering.  Does anyone know if modeling for guns have changed with the new patch?

I seem to be leading too much and overshooting the target most of the time.  I feel like I'm having to develop a whole new sight picture now every time I squeeze the trigger.

Thanks,

You are not alone in that perception. In the few sorties I could fly I have a very hard time hitting my mark, my hit % has been cut by half.
Gun modeling hasn't changed tho, such a major redesign would have found it's way to the version notes...

I have no problem, I think it seems easier to hit people. I'm not sure if it because I haven't play in a while or not. Everythign seems to slow down a bit, giving more time to make small adjustment.

Did you check your convergence ?

Every one of my convergence settings reset to default. Threw me off a bit too.

Perhaps since AH is set to default to the highest screen resolution now things are a bit weird to you.  Just a guess.

I've noticed that also, HighG -- even with detail turned off and convergance reset.  There is another thread around here somewhere about fx on hits and kills as well.  So, one would tend to believe that it would be on the list of inumerable bugs to be swatted.

No changes were made in that area.  The only change that I can think of that might produce this effect is that the new automatic field of view configuration is picking a different FOV setting than what you previously used.  I suppose that could throw your sight picture off but that's just a hypothesis.

IMO, changes to screen resolution/FOV/geometry and/or new cockpit artwork/modelling will change the cues that you subconsiously use to predict the path and rate at which objects will move across your screen.

What can FOV settings do in terms of say, having a standard 19 inch monitor and a resolution of 1280x1024? I've always been slightly dumb in that field.

I still think everything looks "bigger" or "closer".  My gunnery is off as well but I believe it is a matter of perception.

My normal problem is not leading enough and now, surprisingly, I've found myself shooting in front of targets in turns more than once.

As the gvers have complained as well, I think it will just take some time to "get used" to it.

Otherwise, I don't think the gunnery model nor lethality has changed at all.

Everything is BIGGER and clearer.
