Barebone system from Tigerdirect for sub $200...

Just got this from Tigerdirect as a barebones system. It should run everything and is a real cost effective building block to get a new upgraded system up and running for someone. BUT don't forget your main components like video card, etc...

This one should get the ball rolling on a tight budget build.

I'm always leary of Tigerdirect barebones rigs.  Mainly because to get the cost down they either a) use outdated product (like they used to sell Pentium D's instead of a Core 2 Duo etc) b) use no name brand case/psu parts or inferior quality ones.

I'm a stickler on PSU's.  Yeah, that $30 PSU may run your computer, but will it last and when it goes is it going to take the rest of the components with it?

Cheap cases are fine IMO.  But PSU's power every single component in that computer and their quality is often overlooked.  It's providing the blood to your system.

So for that reason, I don't recommend their builds, unless perhaps it didn't include a PSU.

PowerUp is the case maker and most likely the PSU maker... but there is no website for this company.  I was able to find that they are out of China.  Thats all the info I was able to get.  I would want to know the basics at least.  How many rails, how many amps on the rail(s), what connectors are coming from the PSU,  does it even have 6 and 8 pin connectors for the video cards, how many SATA connectors etc.   Very weary of this item.

Much better components for about the same money with name brand components, not unsellable off brands coupled with a know brand as a marketing ploy

I'd be very leary of this PSU.   That is weak for a +12V rail/450W PSU, IMO.

They don't suck persay.  You just have to select the products that you want.  I mean they offer most of the same stuff any computer retailer does for parts.  They are sometimes a bit more expensive.  I've had good experiences with their customer service.  I'm usually a 90-95% Newegg person, but I'll get items from TigerDirect since for where I live, it's only a 1 day ship time which is very convenient.  Especially when my server box had its PSU go out.

I hear ya, but once I tried to buy a product from them at their advertised price. I paid for it, then they refused to ship it, called me and asked for more money or to buy diffrent product (same item/brand just priced higher).   For that, they'll never ever see my $$$ no matter how good of a deal it is.

Personally I have never had any issue with Tigerdirect. In fact they are the ones I ended up buying my video camera from for about $300 cheaper than anywhere else. Glad I got it when I did because it went back up to $899 3 days after I bought it for $599 with free next two day shipping.

But back on topic as I said it is the basic building blocks for a CHEAP system.
