Compatibility Mode needed for single core processor?
« on: August 06, 2009, 01:36:42 PM »
I am running a AMD Dual Core processor and will be switching tomorrow to a single core (AMD Athlon FX-57).
I have to run the game now in Win98 mode. Can I switch back to run normally once I install the new single core processor?

IT sure would be nice if "us" AMD dual core processor players could all find a way to make our processors run as mine does..

I have the following:

MB: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxes series
CPU: AMD Athlon 6400+ x2 dual core
OS: 1st partition = Windows XP Pro SP3  32 Bit &  2nd partition = Windows 7 RC1 64 Bit ( all important updates are up to date )
System Memory: (4) 1 gig sticks of Corsair PC6400 ( 800 mhz ) DDR2  in Dual channel Mode
Video Card: Asus Ati EAH3870 TOP - 512 meg DDR4 PCI-E x16  using July 23/09 new release drivers 9.7  for windows 7 & windows XP

in windowsXP Pro I use the AMD Optimizier patch 1.1.4 version  and have not had nary a problem at all........

in Windows 7 RC 1 64 bit - The game runs perfect, infact runs better than windows XP pro and I get full use of my 4 gigs of memory in windows 7 64 bit....

I remember reading where some AMD duel core users had to revert back to the older/previous versions of the AMD optimizier patch file ( batch file ? )  because the new/most recent version messed their PC's up.....

so what is it that I have no problems and never had to run in win98 compatibility mode...........yet others have too?

also one of our squadys is running Windows98se  and says he can not update the game.something about windows98 is not supported anymore? is this correct??  or is there a work around?

All of the issues I've seen were older mobos and/or Vista.

Nobody supports Win98 anymore. Best workaround is WinXP.

I figured as much........

is kind of strange Win98 (win98se) not being supported ( at least is what one of our Damned Squaddies mentioned on his trying to update the game )

yet for some AMD dual core users, in winXP Pro or in Vista they have to click it to run in win98 compatibility mode

I can't remember exactly what happens in WinXP compatibility mode...something about the OS kernel backward compatibility...it doesn't actually load Win95 or 98, just fools the program into thinking it's running in an older operating system...I've heard that Windows 7 is almost perfect in compatibility mode.

hmm........ I simply installed AH just as one would install AH in windowsXP.....I do not run it in any type of compatibility mode in windows 7 64 bit...........( nor in Windows XP )

also Windows 7 64 bit has not required any hotfix patches from MS nor has it required me to install AMD's optimizer patch for Dual core processors.....

least that is how my systems ( OS's are running )

others may have to use the compatibility modes........

Sounds like you got it made with your system...makes you wonder what some people have on their systems that require so much work don't it?

I haven't had to do anything more than tweak my video settings.
