The best looking single-engine prop fighter of WW II is in my opinion the Ki-61, particularly the later, heavier and lower-performance long-nose Kai-Tei, which was often canibalized by ground crews for parts to keep the older, higher-performance short-nose Koh-Otsu-Hei flying...
The Tei was also used a lot as a kamikaze aircraft, but even the earlier short-nose ones were hardly scorchers at 600 km/h, though for the same power available they were much better than the Me-109E.
