New Version with latest patch.
« on: August 07, 2009, 11:29:39 AM »
I am currently running the game very well.  I have no stutters and my frame rate holds at 60.  Game looks great!

Since all systems differ trying to fix a few can be problematic.  I have several questions that might be looked into
in the future.

1.) Crossfire.  Some of us can enable it and some can't.  Why?
2.) Tray Tools and CCC.  Tray tools gives me the blue screen of death.  Not right away usually around 1 hour of playing with Cross fire enabled.
Tray Tools was installed properly after uninstalling CCC using after the uninstall registry software to clean and repair after the uninstall.
3.) I've been informed by others that have used the latest issue of Tray Tools get a white screen lockup and have had to use a earlier version
     of Tray Tools.(Shamus)
4.) CCC    used it in other games with Crossfire enabled.  No problems and CCC in taskbar while playing.
5.) BushLT has got a new gaming rig.  He has two ATI4870 running crossfire both 1gig cards.  His control I reading is VidMem 3,096.
My Control I reading with Crossfire enabled with dual 4850s and 512K each reads VidMem 512 Used 285 and without Crossfire reads
VidMem 512 Used 162.4  When I run crossfire my frame rate is cut by two thirds?  Why?  So it appears problems could be based on
specific systems, hardware etc.  I'm running a quadcore Intel 9400 with 4 gig DDR2.  My vid cards are 512K each with DDR3 and I'm using
WindowsXP Pro and BushLT is using Vista64bit.  I n my case I had to properly uninstall tray tools and again install properly CCC and NOT
have it running in the task bar with NO Crossfire to get the proper vid usage and performance from 1 Video card (FR solid 60)

I was on the phone with Bush and Lowman last night looking at his system start boot.  Ran a few Dxdiags and looked at his display tab to check driver version and memory
amount for his display. Dxdiag sees 3 gig of Vidmem for his system.  We checked the date on his driver, used registry software to clean it.  Uninstalled his driver and again
used registry software to clean it and downloaded and installed from AMD the latest version of the driver for his cards.  Same results in Vidmem available and Dxdiag saw
the new driver.  BTW Bush installed the latest version properly (he informs me) it did so automatically defaulted properly.

So, as you can see there are many problems.  They could be driver related pertaining to card manufacturer.  Bush and I use the same driver (4800 series) his is dated 7/2/09
mine dated 5/12/09 (or there abouts)  So maybe we will have to wait for driver updates?  Or is it a problem with CPU?

You can see fixing problems in AH is a huge task.  Trying to make a one size fits all is difficult.  Bush, myself and many others have monster machines that should take little or no tweaking to play.
Some have older machines that may have to be tweaked to play.  Drivers, Chipset Drivers,CPUs', and Video Cards and combinations thereof  not to mention sound drivers I would assume
have an effect somehow.  I don't design (code) and know nothing about it.  But I would assume this would be akin to teaching a class how to speak English with people from 80 countries with
differing dialects to teach.

Good Luck HT and Pyro!   I'll send the Scotch after you're done swallowing 80 Advil a day  :lol

I just upgraded my work machine to a Crossfire setup so that we could check out some of these issues first hand.  Once HT gets some time, I'll have him take a look at what's going on there.

Hajo,
I am using an ASUS Ati EAH3870 512 meg card  with an AMD 6400+ x2 dual core chip

in the DXDIAG on windows XP pro it shows it as 1024 megs of memory....on my windows 7 64 bit it shows it as 2048 megs memory

ingame on control I ( winxp system ) shows 1024    ingame on the windows 7 64 bit partition.it shows 4096 megs memory...IIRC

I got screenshots and DXDIAG......

my windows XP pro 32 bit OS  I am using the cat 9.6 drivers , for my windows 7 64 bit OS I am using the recent 9.7 cat drivers

( am using just the display driver only, not using any Tray Tools or any Ati CCC )

I had posted this in the beta forum  asking about this same situation......

It does not have any effect on my game play though, and I have not had any stutters at all...... I figured it is just how the dual core is read by the operating system........just like when I have installed any Video Card that has (2) monitor connections on the back, it loads a primary and a secondary monitor adapter to the advanced settings for the video........my theory is that is why it is doubling it up in the DXDIAG or in the ingame ctrl-I  info toggle.......

"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

I just spent $$ on an ATI (AGP) Radeon HD 4650. The game keeps reverting itself back to basic graphics. Frame rates are 20's at best. My old ATI 9800 Pro (128mb) was never this fussy, just lacking in video memory.

I have similar issues with my 4870 Crossfire setup.  I've tried both rendering modes available to crossfire (scissor and afr) with the same result. My frame rate is cut by 2/3rds.  In game vidmem reads as 512/140 off and 512/180 crossfire on.  Technically, since crossfire does not add up the memory of the 2 cards the total memory is correct. Two 512m cards is seen as only 512m, not 1024.  Just seems odd that more memory is used when nothing else changes.  I've tried Cat 9.4 through Cat 9.7, all the same.  I don't know if its a clue to the problem or not, but I noticed that the frame rate hit disappears when I disable the detailed terrain box (everything else on and set to max).

Luckily the game runs a smooth 60fps for me with just a single card (with water reflections off).

I just upgraded my work machine to a Crossfire setup so that we could check out some of these issues first hand.  Once HT gets some time, I'll have him take a look at what's going on there.

 :aok

You guys already have all my details. Disabling Catalyst I.A. helped a lot with the complex terrain, I went from 10fps to 50  :). I do still have the slow Cnt decrease issue but the framerate is pretty decent now (when there is no need to load textures lol).

I managed to find in Atitool how to disable the hypermemory on my HD2600XT cards but the vid mem count ingame remained the same so I guess this setting is ineffective.

BTW I may have weird problems but I can run AtiTool while playing

Interesting....

I am running an ATI card and on the previous patch to the latest the ingame Ctl-I would show 1024 Memory Avail and a given number Memory Used. ( I forget the used number)

With the latest patch... I don't show any value for the Memory Avail and I get a reading for given number used.

I also thought I saw a few "twitches" last night when on the previous patch had no issues.

Why would the readout no longer display available memory?

I experienced a white screen lock up earlier today.  Not something that EVER happens on my system.  I can count on ten fingers the number of times I have discoed since I started playing AH2...

Somewhat concerning, I must say.

Before this, I was having no problems with the new AH2.

Just a heads up, turning off Cat AI disables crossfire.  You're better off just unchecking the crossfire box.

In FSO tonight we had a mass dump.  Let me explain.  The dump was a white screen for my entire squad!

10 mins before my squadmates had the game go whitescreen and lockup I discoed.

three times today while entering the MA I had an unusual occurance.  Twice I got to the tower and the game just locked up!

I had the clipboard up and could view the airfield but my PC was locked at that point.

And one time in tower I just got the white screen and gave me a msg that windows had to close the program and would I
like to send a report.

It seems like my view-change stutter is gone. The game used to pause when I rotated my head, but I didn't notice it flying yesterday. I hope I didn't just get used to it.
