Purpose made early war and mid war maps
« on: August 07, 2009, 03:49:35 PM »
I would like to see maps made specifically for the Early War Arena with bases about 15 miles apart, 10 miles closer than in the Late War Arenas and maps for Mid War with bases about 20 miles apart.

I think this would help address one issue with the earlier, slower aircraft, that fights take too long to reach.

+1 But they would also be easier to take if they are undefended.  ;)

Is taking undefended bases with GVs really that fun?

I like the idea.  However I think the GV spawn distance should remain the same.

Agreed. Might make terrain-design more interesting, too.

Although I would love to see some kind of system to stop undefended land grabbing.

Even if it was something as simple as tied to the # of troops it requires.

Side balance is even, it would require 10 troops
Side balance is 2 - 1 it would require 20 troops.
Side balance is 10 to 1 it would require 200 troops

When considering the EW, you need to have a setup for no opposition.  Not joking Ghost.

Me like-ee the idea.  Of courSe some people wOn't adapt and whineRs will makE posts that the propoSed #troops to capture ratiOs are "unfAir" which will result in the community de-Riding them; thus necessitating that Skuzzy come in with the PNG stick.

How about, you can't take bases when it's 10-0? :)

I would make ENY kick in that much sooner....you can fly 10v4v2 but your gonna do it in Hurricane Mk1s.

ENY doesn't stop never ending unopposed base captures in either early or mid.

Having to bring 10x as many troops just might slow it down just a smidge.

And as far as I'm concerned, if a country has no defenders at all, its bases should not be able to be captured at all.

Well, my idea was to lessen the flight times and maybe get the numbers in EW and MW up.  Heck, make the flight times actually a bit less than LW.

Hey now, the Mk1 is a fine bird - one of my fav rides.

As far as ENY goes, here's the argument I hear all the time from the landgrabbing horde:
"So what if we outnumber you 10:1 cuz we have ENY and you don't.  You can fly a perk plane almost for free.  Come and kill us with it."

Ten guys in "crap" planes is still tough against one guy no matter what he's flying.

Back to the OP...
I think it would be a great idea to have maps scaled for the average population or speed of planes in an arena.  Early War planes are pretty slow and take a while to get anywhere.  Perhaps a sector could be 15 miles in EW, standard 25 miles in MW and 35 miles in LW.  Map layout wouldn't have to change, since the scale would change the base distances.
