Apple or Dell?
« on: August 13, 2009, 01:02:27 PM »
Which do you guys think is better, apple or dell. For me Dell is better. Apple says it is better for gaming, and all that stuff, but I am in doubt, and that price tag is kinda disturbing. Also apple is kind confusing, and almost none of my stuff works with it. Have any of you noticed that ipod's don't really like any computers but mac's? Some people say mac's don't get viruses, and my theory is that no one bothers to create a virus for apple computers. I bet some of apple's workers use Dell computers, and paid for them.

 :lol :lol :lol :lol

Apple has never claimed this in a million years. Find me a quote where they say they are better for gaming than PC. Most high end games cannot even run on a Mac, although that is because they have not been designed for them.

I have a Macbook, and wouldn't even dream of playing any form of top end game. Certainly if you want to play AH, you need to get a PC. HTC hasn't designed AH for OS X, although you can get around this by using Bootcamp to run Windows on Mac.

I know there are people who play AH on their macs, maybe they'll speak up.

I have an iPod and I've never had any issues with syncing it to my pc.  Maybe explain a little about why you think iPods don't work with pc's?

So far as I know, a big reason why there isn't much of a virus problem with apple is because they have Stalinist authority over who can publish software for their platforms.  Gaining access to what goes on behind the scenes in osX is no easy task.

Lastly, Apple support is the best.  Really.  My wife had an issue with the camera on her macbook, and after apple support helped us fix the issue, they contacted us again the next day to make sure everything was still working smoothly. :O

He clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

iPod's work just as well with PCs as they do with Macs, although I find it a bit easier to use iTunes and Sync on OS X. (That is because I always have iTunes running.) The read time for the iPod to iTunes on a Mac could be a little faster than a PC as well, but that might just be in my head.

Apple says it is better for gaming,

:rofl :rofl

Really, the decision is simple-

Seriously though, I've never had issues syncing my iPod to my PC, and I don't even use iTunes.

I never said, ipods don't work with pc's. You guys love to twist my words don't you? I got one, had trouble setting it up, had a bit of trouble syncing, just didn't want to recognized being hooked up. Some of the mac store people I have talked with say that mac is good for gaming. I don't know this is true, and some of you say it isn't. But anyway, thanks guys.

That's not just untrue, it's an out right lie (unless you LOOOOOOVE you some brick), as unless you install a whole other operating system (Windows) on the machine you can't even run games on a Mac. I wouldn't call that a good setup for gaming.

Last I heard the big reason there's not much of a virus problem on Macs is because there's not enough market share to make it worthwhile. Otherwise Macs are every bit as susceptible to viruses and spyware as a PC (at least as of several years ago, EVERY security flaw present in Windows XP was also in OS X). In fact, there's been several incidents of people writing viruses JUST to remind the world that it CAN be done. Literally, that's all the viruses did was tell you, "I could have REALLY hosed your machine if I wanted to."

As to the OP, your best option is to forget the off-the-shelf rigs and just build your own. Cheaper, easier to get exactly what you want, and better quality control.

HA!!! Even Saxman agreed with me that no one really bothers to create viruses for macs.

And Sax, I already built a new dell. Should arrive tomarow if it arrives when it says. This is just a general thread with no porpouse other than to let me see other peoples's opinions.

You didn't build it. Dell built it based on the limited options they provide you to pick from.

Big difference.

Well lucky for me, dell had the stuff I was looking at in some other computers. I'm not really a graphics junky. As long as the picture isn't blurry, I don't care if I can't see the edges on the metal flying off of you shot up fighter. And I actually got a pretty good deal. N wireless card, 500gb memory, blueray, OLED screen, 48whr battery. Graphics card leaves something to be desired, but it is better than the one I have now, and that can play AH2 on the 800x600 setting, or whatever it is.

If you got integrated graphics again you most likely won't see much of a performance boost.

Purchased a graphics card along with it. It says it's compatible, and if it's not then I will return it.

True 100%. One of my best friends ran Mac and he swore up, down, left, right, front and center that it beat my computer at pretty much everything, plus he, "didn't need an anti-virus!" So, with his permission, wrote a "virus" that would change his desktop to a crappily done picture (done in paint ;) ) saying that until he told me that I won, he wouldn't be able to change his background. Sent an e-mail to him with a picture (the "virus" was attached), and he called me that night saying that I won and to tell him how to get the dang thing off his computer. All he had to do was delete the files for it, but it can be done, and quite easily I must say...

And for building your own, www.newegg.com is your best friend. :)
