Combo Full Detail + Ground Detail
« on: August 14, 2009, 11:31:01 PM »
I really love it, of course, but I don't think it's supposed to work this way.

Before I exit the game, I select Shift+F4.
Then when I re-enter the game, I have Full Detail plus the Ground Detail and I can see the trees at least twice as far as without this setup. The terrain just looks much better to me, and yes, it costs me ~20% of my frame rates.

I'm hoping this can be a deliberate setting, such as a check box. If it already is, I'd like to know, after all, some day I'll have a machine capable of handling it all lol.

Figured I'd better post it in case this is causing others a problem.

To be clear here...

You select Ground Detail mode before you log.

The NEXT time you log into AH you have Full (shift f1) AND Ground (shift f4) going on?

What happens when exit AH with say... Short (shift f3)?

Yes, that's exactly what I see on my front end.

I can't say what happens with F3, I can't remember the last time I tried Short vis.

Guess I should post a couple of screen shots.

Ground View (Shift+F4)

Full View (Shift+F1)

Combo View (Leave in Ground View on arena exit and this is what I see on re-entry)

I just tested this and got the same results as easy.

BTW I think this is great and should not be fixed!

I'll gladly take the small frame rate hit to get full detail out to 6 miles. It looks SO much better flying at low altitude with the detail poping up that much farther away.

Here's another shot from about 4k I'd guess.

I wonder if this explains the "jagged horizon" I get at times.

Similar to what I see in Ground View but i'm in Full.

Great catch btw.

I too see the same thing and like it.  If they just extended the Ground Detail Range slider to 6 miles instead of 3 miles we could have control over this.  The extra range of trees does little to reduce my frame rate.

(What kills my fps is detailed water for some reason, even when water isn't visible at all, like miles and miles from the ocean.)
