what is this drawer for?

My wife bought me a rolltop desk but I have no idea what this drawer is designed for. Any ideas? It has a wire basket under it.
Could it be for a printer maybe?

Most likely the printer.  I've seen printer tables with a slit in the back like that.  Paper feeds up through it and returns back down through it into the basket.  It's to accomodate the dot-matrix printers with continuous-feed fanfold paper.

It is the storage compartment for a 6 bottle beer cooler.
