Ok cool...at least you're not using the "freebie" or "home user" versions of stuff...as for the firewall thing, there have been repeated posts recommending the firewall be disabled to "avoid problems" with AH...I hope you're using a Linksys router with the Linux based firmware on it...everything else is...

If I lived closer to you I could show you some things about your defenses but if it helps you sleep at night...stick with it...at least you're trying...which more than most people even have a concept of trying.

Your recent crash could be a fluke...anything is possible...I've had it happen 3 times with no rhyme or reason on my "good system" the old one has been trouble free...strangely enough.

I just found a much newer driver for that realtek audio card...version A.4.06 dated 10/01/2008...Emachines may have stopped supporting it but Realtek didn't.

This "legacy" driver for your video card should get you up to date on that:
ATI Catalyst™ Display Driver
But then, you never know.

And last but not least...did you try uninstalling your old install of AH from C:\Program Files to and doing a fresh install of the latest version at C:\HiTech Creations\Aces High??

Yes, i uninstalled and reinstalled, but didnt play much after that to put it through the ringers. As far as crash, my computer crashes alot. Most of the time either while the AV is running a scan or after I start up and the AV is loading. I am looking into diffrent AV programs, but not sure. PC Associates has been recommended as being good for gamers

Gary, if your system is crashing while your AV is running a scan or loading...uninstall it...stay away from PC Cillin, McAffee, Symantec...try Avast or Avira for low system overhead and protection that is better than the 3 big corporate programs...

You might want to do some further diagnostics as well on your system...with frequent crashes it's not unusual for the file system to get corrupted which will mean a complete system reload if it happens to the wrong part of your operating system.

Since you're not a tech geek...I don't recommend doing this stuff without someone who at least understands the lingo assisting you in person.

I saw the driver for the Realtek. I also saw the warning from them that there may be issues when used with MB onboard chipsets.

I also saw the "legacy" drivers but they are not for an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro AGP.

I did do a fresh AH install from the start.

Way back when highspeed cable first became available to me all I had was the "modem" and my system. Thus I went with ZoneAlarm. I have always used a retail version of it.

Linksys(Cisco) is the only way to go IMHO. I started with a single port firewall and I am now using a 5 port router firewall.

I have seen the items regarding firewall interference with AH. It has never been an issue for me.

I am sure you could show me some things that would have me shutting down my systems when the are not in active use. I know it is out there. Whether one is involved with physical or electronic security, it can always be overcome. I have just taken the precautions to prevent one from "sneaking in or out." Log reviews and other measures are a good practice.

Well 2slow, don't know what to tell you...I happen to have that Realtek audio driver running on my old HP system with WinXP SP3 (AC97 audio chip) and it's working fine regardless of the warnings (couldn't recommend it without trying it)...as for the video card driver I used the interactive support search function on AMD's website and after specifying that exact video card...there are 2 updated legacy driver packages available...9.3.1 from 7/5/2009 and 9.8 from 8/16/2009...the list of video cards that show up under those drivers are the latest card series to be "added" to the legacy driver list supported by those drivers.

One of the most valuable things I've learned over the past 18 years in various I.T. roles...just when you think you know what you're doing, you don't.

I now have over 9 hours of use, off-line (working on my town carpet bombing method), with no issues. I shall get in some Titanic time tonight and see how things go.

Thanks for the info on Realtek. If I have issues again, I shall give the drivers a try.

I see what you are saying (in the bold). I will give them a try soon. Heck, one can always revert back on the driver. Did I say always? Perhaps I meant one should be able to revert back.

I tried the ATI 9.8 driver install package. It does not find a driver for my current setup. 9.3 package gives me what I already have. So I do have the "latest" driver for the display.

So far I have not had any further issues with an AH crash.

Ok cool Slow...if you're not crashing now, I wouldn't sweat it. It's really too bad AMD had to acquire ATI.

Is is possible that some of the crashes we experience come from server side? I mean consider a slight bug on the server, if the client can't translate it properly, the client continues to try until it gives up or crashes. Just a thought.

Your paging file usage is still pretty high...have you run any anti-spyware/malware programs on your system besides the anti-virus program that crashes your system?

You're running Windows XP 64 bit...and your drivers look ok. Like Gary your paging file usage is high...any idea what you have running in the background? Like iTunes, Googledesktop...anything like that?

What texture size are you running? What have you tried?

Also fair to note the 9400GT is a pretty low end video card. It only makes use of DDR2 RAM. Fill rate is pretty weak, comparatively speaking. Probably should not be running with the "Detailed Terrain" option enabled. I would also reduce the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256.
