Brooke! Stalin's 4th again!
« on: August 16, 2009, 11:00:15 PM »
I didn't take part in scenarios back when this was ran, but from the films, screenies & accounts, it seems like one of the all-time favorites and I would love to be able to play it.  Any chance of getting it on the table?

Too much custom map work would need to be redone almost from scratch. The maps are no longer valid, and with nearly 100% custom objects, I can't see it being done "soon," so it would hinge totally on the terrain.

Yep.  We'd love to run it again, but the map is the sticking point.  It needs to be redone, and that's a lot of work that someone needs to do -- probably the Finns are best suited as they were involved in building it in the first place.  But because it's a lot of work, it probably isn't going to get done in the near future.

Wow, my film made it here too. :) Here is the website listing and the movie is there if you wish to download it. http://www.kkenshome.com/stalin4th.html - http://www.kkenshome.com/media/stalins%204th.wmv (35.8MB)

Unfortunately, I did not have any other films but my own to add to the movie. The promotional videos were awesome. I'll see if I can add them to my site as well, if I can find them linked. I have them saved on this PC.

Hey if you have the one which I made, you can upload it straight to youtube. I seem to have lost the video myself

Me and BlauK are just working with a totally new Finrus terrain, which is 1:1 map. We are going to put together those two popular terrains: Finrus and Karelia. There are coming those same custom sand and grass airfields, custom V-bases (If Skuzzy shows us green light...), the town of Viipuri with he castle etc.

The new Terrain Editor allows us to make those typical Finnish waterways much more better than what we made with our "custom coastlines" couple of years ago in the Karelia terrain (we can now make coasts with 55 yards resolution). Also those Finnish landscapes (terrain textures) are going to be custom and much more better looking than the old ones. Because we don't need anymore those custom coastline objects the terrain is coming much more "lighter" and the FPS' are going to be remarkably better with this new version.

At first we are going to built a small 128 x 128 map which contains almost the same area than the old Karelia terrain. After everything is tested in the SEA (I hope) we are going to "open the map size window" to 256 x 256 miles terrain. If it is working good, the last update is going to be 512 x 512 miles map. We HOPE with BlauK that the first test version of the new Finrus map is available on January 2010.

Have,
I found 3, one called STALIN.wmv by YUCCA and 2 .avi movies which were promos and not sure who made them.
I thought about converting the .avi's into .wmvs but didn't want to infringe on anyone elses work. Also, if one or more of these are yours I'll acknowledge you on my site, if it's OK. If you know what name it was, maybe I can research it better. I have a bunch downloaded.

http://www.kkenshome.com/media/STALIN.wmv (55.7MB) and my music inspiration.

** Uploading is rather slow today. I am posting now but it may be 30 more mins from the time on the post before the first one is finished uploading.

...snip...

Great news. Looking forward to see the result.
What is planned to be included in the later, larger versions? Mostly including northern karelia or are you perhaps also including southern Leningrad area? :pray Even if the frontliens didn't move much here, there were numerous heavy battles, that could be suited for special events.

Snefens,
Here is the map area under work. I think the 128x128 is just not in a good location, thus 256x256 might be the first initial version ;)

Sorry, as BlauK said the 256 x 256 miles map is the first releasing versio to the SEA, but we are testing it in the Offline at first as 128 x 128 miles terrain.
