Gatt,
I think Funked is right.

The N1K2 is a built Hellcat killer, almost as much as the Hellcat is a built Zero killer.  I don't think that it is on nearly the same scale as the A6M2 vs. F4F, but it will still be bad for the American pilot.

When Hellcat pilots first encountered N1Ks, they reported that they were doing turns and maneuvers that seemed impossible.  Sound familiar?

There is one account of a 12 Hellcats encountering single N1K2 off the coast of Japan in 1945.  The two sides proceeded to have it out with the end result of the N1K2 shooting down 4 Hellcats before executing a successful disengage.

Unfortunately for the Hellcat, the Hellcat killer is already present in AH.  This is also unfortunate for the players who like diversity as it will probably mean that the Hellcat will be a relatively rare sight.

I doubt that Karnak!
I am willing to bet the F6 will be of average popularity.  Its airbrake will permit some lovely dives onto the 6 of a maneuvering bandit, it should also be a pretty good divebomber as well.
It will also take alot of punishment as well.

I guess the combination of deployed split-flaps and locked-gear would make a pretty good air brake.

CC! Just as long as it's not an AW "speed brake"

Hopefully that won't be the case. Pyro said that as part of the new perk system, kills made by the popular "uber" planes won't count nearly as much as a kill by an average plane, thus insuring diversity in the main arena...

If the N1K1 doesn't eat the F6F for lunch, then something is wrong, I can only think of one aspect that  the F6F would be better in, that would be a slight edge in turn radius..the N1K1 should out-accelerate, out climb, *possibly* outdive? (not sure here)..

Of course that is assuming same skill pile-its in both the "Niki" and the F6F.  Otherwise, you're absolutley right.

I am not ready to concede defeat to the Nikki just yet.

The Hellcat should take a beating and still fly. It won't climb as fast, but it should have a better roll and high-speed handling. The major difference will be in its snapshot killing ability. In short, it will be the guns, not the planes that decide the outcome. If the Hellcat can avoid the snaps it should be even, anyway.

A little warning to everyone; every single plane released (at least, in my memory) has been tweaked downward somewhere along the line. If that trend holds the Hellcat will be an uber ride early, and the skies will definitely be "blue". There will be the cries of "American bias", and the fm will get its adjustment. Then and only then will the fm be considered final.

The above is merely an observation of recent history.

Don't forget to mention those cries about Fw190A5 and 109 in the past.

Fortunately, the FMs have only been adjusted when numbers clearly show that something is off rather than on the basis of who whines most  . So I'd not call it de-ubering or such rather than "streamlining the FMs" or something like that  .
