building a new system
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:31:18 PM »
so I decided Id really like to put together a new system, Ive been looking around and I found a bare bones kit that I think looks good but Im not sure.

its a tempest black case, Asus P6T LGA 1366 Motherboard, Intel Core i7 920 Processor BX80601920, 2 Sets of Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 6GB PC12800 DDR3 Memory, Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB Hard Drive,Corsair TX750W 750-Watt Power Supply

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4601609&Sku=B69-1054

its been a while since i built a system, but this seems awsome, although Im not sure about 12GB of ram, seems like way to much to me for the price. Im looking to spend around 2000-2500 at most.

I was thinking about adding on a new cpu heatsink + fan and a new graphics card of course.
running it all on windows vista. Im really unsure about all these parts and maybe somone around here knows better then me. Im not even sure what would be adiquet cooling for this setup. any help anyone can give me would be much appreatiated.

Just a little note about Humble's mobo choice...if you're going to use an Asus board...don't use Intel cpu's...they don't play nice and support is poop.

Asus - Gigabyte - MSI = great for AMD support

Intel - XFX - EVGA = great for Intel support

:O  :huh  At the total prices listed...I could build massive system with multiple monitors...I thought the whole idea of building a system was getting the most bang for the buck...not breaking the bank.

I was using the MB in the "bare bones" kit to make as close a comparison as possible. In reviewing the Toms article they found that the total markup was about $200 vs the cost of the parts so the truth is that you can't build the same system for significantly less.

Personally I see now more of an issue than there should have been. There was a post from an unsatisfied customer, which compliments the many posts from very satisfied customers. This thread was very quickly shutdown by Skuzzy because he personally felt offended and for no other reason. After all if we allow "advertising" then we should allow complaints as well.<snip>

It was nothing personal at all.  A false and baseless accusation of HTC's integrity was made and then a more pointed baseless and false accusation of my integrity was made.  The thread was locked as it would have served no purpose to leave it open.  The two parties directly involved had their say in a thread that should have never been started to begin with.

We do not allow advertising of services or product in our forums.  Hit the "Report to moderator" link for any such occurrence and it will be dealt with.

humble, I request you take this to a PM, if you are having issues with any individual in this forum.  If any of you want to discuss a companies business practices, I suggest you take it to said businesses forums or whatever communication method of choice they use.

humble, first and foremost, this thread is not about another business.  It is a user asking for help/recommendations on his choices.  Comment on that all you like.

No one gets a free pass to do anything that violates the forum posting rules. I will say it again.  If anyone sees anything that is out of line, hit the "Report to moderator" link.  The issue will be dealt with.  How many times do I have to say that before it sinks in?

humble I am not going to allow you, or anyone else, to hijack this players thread for any personal agendas anyone may have.  If you have comment on the players choice of hardware, then feel free to comment on it.  How many times does that have to be said?
