The truth about the Fw 190 revealed!
« on: November 07, 2000, 07:18:00 AM »
Behold, the plane that is the origin of the Fw 190!

The PZL P.11

How is this possible?

The P.11 was developed into this plane, with a better cowled engine and an enclosed cockpit:

The PZL P.24

After building their own P.24's, Romania developed it further into this plane, by redesigning the P.24 into a low-wing monoplane with a closely cowled radial engine and high visibility cockpit canopy:

The IAR 80

And finally, we come to Kurt Tank's final product.

The Fw 190

Notice the remarkable similarities to the IAR 80 present in the Fw 190 - the wide stance of the landing gear, the shape of the wing, the closely cowled radial engine driving a 3-bladed prop!

The major dimensions of the two aircraft are remarkably similar: both aircraft have a wingspan of 10.5m. The IAR 80 is 8.9m long, the Fw 190 measures up at 8.84m.

The IAR 80C had an armament of 4 machineguns and 2 cannon - an identical mix of guns was carried by the Fw 190A-1.

The evidence is clearly overwhelming! It is indisputable that the P.11, from which the IAR 80 was developed, was the major influence on Kurt Tank's design of the Fw 190!

Clearly, the P.11c is the inspiration for all subsequent fighter aircraft.

lol. I saw a picture of the IAR-80 last night and said, hmmmmm. This could stir the pot quite a BIT!

And of course the Chance Vought engineers, being the unoriginal, uninspiring hackneye'd type that they were, got the fediddlein wing wrong and put it on the F4U upside down when they copied the PZL P.11 !

They're all copies..
they have two wings, stabilizers and engine, which all are connected into somewhat cylinder like fuselage and of course suicidal human usually sits in the middle of this all.

I've always thought an IAR-80 would have been an excellent addition to the planeset. We're a bit short on Romanian AC right now :-)

The production run certainly really isn't much different than the (tiny) size of the C-Hog production run.

And they did see combat.  One of the chapters in Hammel's "Aces against Germany" is an account of giant lo-alt furball of a bunch of P-38s and IARs....

And guess what..

They thought they were fighting 190s at first :-)
