Accessig my system through HT Server
« on: August 26, 2009, 12:17:17 PM »
I just read a post about a player's system was accessed while playing some time ago.  My questions is:  Is our system's safe from hackers while granting Aces High full access, with no anti-virus or other safe guards while on the server.  This has my full attention, while we let this Server access our firewalls at any given time..  What kinda of security is on the server to stop, or even warn me of such an access on my system.  I know a couple of times I have logged, went to shut down my system and got a message the it would affect other users that are logged on.  Kind of has me curios of the security of the Server.

you can run trip wire . I do not think it will consume that much to run in the backround

Now THAT is creepy!!!  Can we get a clarification please?

With all the sneaky garbage on the internet these days, I
really don't think HTC wants a rumor like that flyin around..

That would SURELY drive me away from this game...

Show the post before spewing this total BS here.  Considering your squad's history in this game, I wouldn't believe a single thing you have to say.

Ok...so you're afraid your system is going to get hacked through the port this game uses....  :uhoh

If you answer yes to the following questions:

Do you have any type of file sharing enabled on your computer, especially with P2P file sharing programs?

Are you using AIM, IRC, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger?

Is the "guest" account still enabled on your computer?

Is the "help assistant" account still enabled on your computer?

Is the default "administrator" account not password protected with a minimum 16 character alpha numeric password?

Are there any user accounts that you created on your system that are not password protected?

Are you using the default "administrator" account as your own?

Do you connect your computer directly to the modem instead of using a router?

Have you been on any websites that installed some sort of malware on your computer?

Do you frequently find trojan files on your system when doing spyware/virus scans?

Do you have remote desktop enabled?

The possibility of someone accessing your system through the port a game uses for connectivity is slim but if the answer is yes to any of those questions then the possibility of your someone accessing your system is higher than average.

I would tell you to just cut the cable that connects your computer to your internet connection but I'm sure you get the idea of what not to do and what you can do to close most of the doors for accessing your computer remotely.

Let HTC deal with this question guys. Eagle knows he could have sent skuzzy an e-mail and gotten an answer.

By simply granting AH full access , there is no way anything bad can happen to your system.

just add trip wire if you are concerned .....

The only safe  computer is one that is buried 30 feet , not plugged in and shot through with a 357mag
