No keyboard input?
« on: August 26, 2009, 08:52:32 PM »
Okay, just built a new rig and first attempt at firing it up, everything seems to run-cpu fan case fan, gpu fan, monitor lights up and I get to the MSI motherboard bios screen and try to get to bios by delete(which it says) but no communication from keyboard. I pulled the connector cord and reinstalled it- no luck. restarted the computer(3 times)- no luck. thought maybe a bad keyboard(its brand new) so i tried a second one I know works -same result.

any Ideas?  bad mobo maybe? the leds on either keyboard do light up but thats it, no input.

here is a picture

  :huh PS2 keyboard and mouse?

You happen to have a USB keyboard and mouse? The PS2 ports are probably turned off in the bios (some have that feature).

I've used a few MSI mobo's and can't recall seeing such a setting in their bios options. Even if such a setting does exist it would seem bizarre to turn off the PS2 port as a default setting. I agree completely though in trying a usb keyboard and see what happens.

I think it's a bad mb. Just my humble opinion. However, make sure all power connections are in solid. Sometimes a system will boot if the 24 pin connection is in but the peripherals won't work.

Looks to me like you have your cables reversed........ you have the mouse plugged into the keyboard socket and vise versa

I have them in according to the color code and symbol.
I swapped them after the multiple reboot attempts, thinking maybe internally they were reversed but same result.

The green mouse connector is inboard in his pic as is correct in every configuration that I am used to.

they might be right....... Im just looking at a green mouse cable with a mouse emblem on the side......... and an I/O shield with a keyboard emblem on the right socket and a mouse emblem on the left socket........ so if hes hooked up correct than from the picture it appears his I/O shield is labeled wrong

Every motherboard I have in this building has the keyboard connector (blue) on top.  The mouse (green) on the bottom.

That's a brand new mobo isn't it, why have PS2 ports on it to begin with?

Anyone want this kickstand from a Sherman tank?

1)unplug your mouse and keyboard.

2)plug only your keyboard into the upper right.
