My KB and mouse are in the same order as the picture on both my comps.

That's a brand new mobo isn't it, why have PS2 ports on it to begin with?

Anyone want this kickstand from a Sherman tank?

Actually I prefer the PS/2 ports over the USB ports for mouse and keyboard.  Connect a Digital HD camera to your USB bus and stream in a video to the hard disk, and you will be very happy to have the mouse and keyboard off the USB bus.

So, keyboard and mouse plug location is not as standardized as I thought it was.  Go figure.  I have only used ASUS, Abit, Gigabyte, SuperMicro, and Tyan motherboards.  They all have the keyboard above the mouse in a PS/2 configuration.

Although I just noticed, we have a Compaq in the corner and it has the keyboard on the bottom.

My bad.

yes they vary by manufacturer...... I was simply looking at the I/O shield and jumped to that conclusion........ the I/O shield appears to have a keyboard emblem on the right and a mouse emblem on the left

I totally forgot about issues like that. I've been using a PCI USB expansion card in my systems for a few years just for cameras and other extras...keyboard and mouse always go directly to mobo input.

According to his I/O picture.   The right is the Keyboard.   So according to the shield, they're reversed.

Exactly my point...... so if they are indeed hooked up correctly...... then his I/O shield is labeled incorrectly

LOL I had to look again to make sure I wasnt imagining things

Nope, I looked at it initially thought the mouse wire was on the 2 O' of that "right hand imprint".   But the closer I looked, it is a Keyboard and QC at that MSI facility screwed it up.   Makes you wonder if that was "Monday or Friday MB or I/O Shield".   :devil

I use a PS/2 Logitech KB from my old pc.  Works fine, no BIOS tweak needed.   I've never known a KB to NOT be "Plug n Play" on boot up, OS install, etc.  At least of the past DFI, Gigabyte and my Current ASUS.   This is spanning ME - Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Want me to show you how to short out a PS2 connection?  :D  :devil

My "opinion" on PS2 is =9600 baud modem...nice at one point in time but there is much better now. USB is faster and more reliable.

I've had a couple of MSI boards...some things were bassackwards, but at one point very nice, then dog pile...haven't tried the new ones.

Whatever folks, the ports are color coded be they right, left, top or bottom. The OP has stated they are connected per color code.

That is correct and as stated earlier, I have tried them in the opposite ports with the same result.
