Verizon Blackberrys
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:57:28 AM »
Any of you hooked on Verizon Blackberry phones?  Time for us to pursue the latest 2-year deal, and we're tempted by the Verizon Blackberry offerings, either the Storm or the Tour.

On-line research suggests the Tour.  The Storm seems to confound many people with its extensive touch screen.  Blackberrys seem a bit slow going on line line compared to iphone and Palm, but consensus seems to favor Blackberry for business (however, our use will be strictly personal).

What do you think?  Do you use any of these premium devices?  Which do you recommend?

Just from observation since I've never liked the Blackberry anything...where I work, of 50 people who ordered Blackberry phones for work use this year...only 7 have kept theirs, the rest switched to HTC Touch pro, or Palms...and for some odd reason, we maintain a Blackberry server so those few who have them can have the same exchange email functionality as everyone else.

The latest phones put out by Blackberry looks like their trying to go head to head with the Samsungs, HTCs, Palms, and iPhones...you always have 30 days return it if it's not what you want.  :D

I have a Storm and have had a decent experience.  I like the touch screen and it's not hard to use.  I've tried out the HTC and LG touch screens that friends have and the one thing I like about this one is that you actually have to push the screen in for it to do something so unlike the others if you push something on accident it won't do anything.

The only gripe I have is that here lately mine has been getting really slow and has been processing for a while before doing certain functions.  I thought the touch screen keyboard would be tough to use but it's not at all, I love it.  Easier IMO than using keys.  Try all of them out and see what you like.  The Tour is supposedly pretty good but it wasn't available when I got the Storm.

Also, I found this out too late, see if your company has any type of deal with buying through Verizon if that's who you are going with.  If you don't know just go to www.verizonwireless.com/discount and type in your work e-mail address if you have one to see if you are eligible.  I just signed up for it a few weeks ago and now I get 20% off my monthly bill and 25% off of phones and accessories, would have been good to know before buying the Storm.  I also caught the buy one get one deal they had which I think they are running again.

I looked at the Storm and the Tour both, very nice phones, almost went with the Tour. Ultimately I ended up with the HTC Ozone. I prefer the Windows Mobile and the WIFI ability on it.

my friend that has a couple stores in philly, has a blackberry, and she loves it.

one of my friends in CAP, who works for a govt. contracter in the daytime, has a blackberry issued to him....and he loves it too.

i think it comes to what you like best....your preference.

HTC makes a quality product.  I have the Diamond and love it.  If you're not using this for business, a multi-media phone is better suited to you than a smartphone.  Blackberries, until recently, couldn't send a picture in a text message without a firmware patch.  If you you're looking at smartphones, you can't go wrong with the Palm Pre.

Thanks for your inputs.  After fondling the various devices at a Verizon store, we're now leaning toward the LG enV Touch.  Feels friendlier and a bit more intuitive.  Might wait to see how Blackberry Storm 2 compares after it comes out supposedly around November.

Halo, I've had my env Touch for abou a week now, the second day I ordered a silicone case for it (still waiting for it) to reduce scratches. the one thing I did was run the battery completely dead two or 3 times before recharging it when it got low. People said that battery live was increased when this happened. The space bar was a little getting used to over my old env but over all it's a great phone. The camera is great, interface is nice, touch screen is very responsive and works great. The thing I'm getting used to vs my ipod touch is the touch screen, in order to navigate a scroll you need to press down then scroll your finger up or down, while on my ipod touch you can just scroll up or down. The music player is pretty decent for a phone as well.
I'm sure if you get the env Touch you won't be disappointed.

wow, I have a Pantech Duo, that went obselete a week after I got it, after the started making the new versions of them.  :lol

Phone is very reliable though, Been swimmin with me atleast 4 or 5 times. Hell, I tried to break it by throwing it against a wall, didn't work. Still got the same one, after about a year now, been through a LOT too. All the paints worn off of it, and the "call" and "end" buttons are just green and red.  Intardnet was always very good on it too, just about everything IMO. But it isn't a touch screen though, if that's what you're looking for.
No one knows what the future may bring.

I really like my Samsung Memoir. Only thing it lacks is wifi. Internet is decent and GPS is nice. I like that  I can google a place and send the addy to my GPS too. I have T-Mobile 3000 minute unlimited text country wide no long distance.

I've had a lot of friends go to the G1 from their Iphones ,and they absolutely love it.

when i went to upgrade my phone(i was still using a 5 year old razr), i intended to only buy another flip phone. i went with the g1. it does internet where ever i'm at. it'll search and log onto wireless networks. it seems to be "open source" if i'm using the right term for programs you can d/l and install in it. i've just added a voice recorder, and weather. going to d/l aviation weather tonight.....and nav software.

i looked at the blackberry....and it looked kinda cool.....but didn't seem to have the functionality of the g1.

i like the g1....and it takes a lot for me to spend the extra money on myself.
