Spitdweeb Drool material !!
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:14:35 AM »
This may have already been posted here, I dunno, but just came across it and thought some of you would appreciate...

1/5 scale Spitfire, in all aluminum.  :O

Incredible little bird, and 11 years of work. If only I had that much patience.....

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Hmmmm... did someone say "flyable?"

http://www.legendofaces.com/Aviation/MJ10_MJ100.htm

How about either a 75% scale v-8 powered

or 100% scale V-12 powered replica of the Spitfire?  :rock

Construction pics of a 100% scale version being built in a gentleman's garage...

:O :x Spitfires! *DROOL!* Think he'll sell that 1/5 scale model to me??  :D

One of my dreams is to one day fly in a fully restored Spitfire. If not the Spitfire then a Me-109!

Seriously hope the guy building the Spitfire in his garage knows his welding.

Looked like chromoly being welded with a MIG welder......the welds were rusting like he used a low chrome content wire too.

Looks like an awesome project tho...

My guess it's going to be static.

He needs to install a rocket engine for it to have the proper climb characteristics.

My guess it's going to be static.

Seriously doubt that, given there are numerous examples of replicas built exactly like this one, from plans from the same source, flying worldwide. If it was static I doubt he would go to the trouble of installing a Merlin and full avionics.

If you take a closer look there are 2 different spits being built, I don't see a Merlin in the garage built photo. That is the one I was referring to as a possible static representation. Besides there was comments made about the suspicious welding techniques used on that one. My guess if in fact it does fly it will soon crash.

All pics are of the same bird, being built by Mr Andrew Keenan, just different stages of construction.

I'm curious, which pics show suspicious welds? I've looked, didn't see.

I dont know Im not a welder but someone mentioned that the welds were questionable, read back a bit.
