wirble gunsight
« on: September 01, 2009, 06:19:50 PM »
I'm looking for a good gunsight for a wirble. Right now I can't hit thing on it unless there is coming straight at me.
Could you guys let me know which sights you use?

thanks

Mouse pointer and PgUp.

If you stay in the sight you can't lead enough at crossing targets, that's why you can only kill planes coming directly at you.

No, just put the mouse pointer on the dot in your gunsight & raise head position,

In WW, you could do without raising your head. But if you don't it's easy to get too much fixated on the gunsight resulting in not leading your target sufficiently.
Remember, against a fast crossing target, you have to lead something like the whole screen width!
So any different gunsight couldn't help you anyway

Now this is the Ostwind. You can easily see it's an absolute necessity to raise you head position, or you would be completely incapable to lead your target:

The main problem for most players using the WW and OW is they are way too reluctant in leading their target. I can only recommend to go to the MA and ask any player if he can do a few fake attacks and flyby's. go to any other field than A1 with him, spawn your WW or OW and watch the green lead computing crosshair. You may be surprised how far in front of your target it appears, when he's buzzing by...

So no matter where you raise your head the gun will be zero'ed on the sight still right?

Cool, I dont use Osties due to the poor head position.

Let me ask this. Do you set foward head position higher? In other words normally looking left/right/behind will reset you to normal front view. Can you set front view higher and be done with it? That way you dont continually need to page up when going to front view? Thanks.

The raised head position is my saved default one.

The moment I spawn my WW/OW, I start engine, go into turret, hit "Home" to bring gunsight up (the game's default), put my pointer on gunsight, hit H to freeze mouse - thats it, I'm combat ready. Takes about 2 seconds.

Actually I found a way to do it default-wise. First I set it up, freeze mouse, then hit F-10 to save view to default view. Now i can scan my 360% without having to page up when I go into default view.

But then I have to set cursor each time after i spawn out. Heres the thing. My foward view is still left the old default with the gunsight in the sight box. So I push the hat foward, move the cursor to the center of the gunsight, then lock it and off I go. Now im able to shoot cursor high and scan my side views without having to page down.

I'll try "home" it sounds easier. But i think I have home mapped to somthing else. Either way I'll play with it after work. :salute

I only use the site for targets that are close or when I need to have a bit better control of where the shells are going to end up.  Otherwise all my shooting is done from the page up view.  Over time you will get to know where shells will go, leads to use, etc.  Practice, Practice, Practice...

by the way, pgup'ing yourself out of the drivers position is also handy.  f10 all them views too, then ya can drive properly.

this goes for all tanks also..

A piece of clear scotch tape with an "X" drawn on it and taped to your screen works wonders for gv's and planes.  I leave it there...works good with other games as well.  Your mouse pointer should be dead center of your "X" at computer start up.

Training arena (you will have to use a base other than A1 as GV's disabled there)
Turn on the lead computing gunsight. Control tab, point view at target and hit tab again.

Have your target start with straight on passes. Then start making them 3 -600 off to the side.

It takes a LOT of lead for a reasonably fast plane diving in.

Most people pick it up pretty quickly. 10 - 20 min in most cases will make a world of difference.
