The la-7 is not as dweeby IMO as a spit. The only way it could be used dweeby is the BnZ.

 :huh

Ask your squaddie sads about that.   Sads and I have always been on the "same page" when it comes to the "La7 haters".   My statement still stands as well.

I agree that the La-7 is not one of the easiest aircraft to fly.  The muzzle velocity of the cannon is about 100m/s less than the Hispano; the slats cause some issues; you have to manage your throttle and rpm's to do more than buzz around your own airfield.  Of course, it's a performance monster, but not one a mediocre pilot can be effective in (Zazen's sense of the word).

WFT Anax?

Now if you are trying to use it for close maneuvering fights with Spits or Corsairs*, that might be kind of hard, although not the challenge that trying to out-turn them in practically any other LW plane is.

But why would you when you can simply use it against all the planes it out-runs, out-climbs, out-accelerates and grossly-out-turns without difficulty? Pull in behind, pull back a little throttle to stay in the turn, get decently close and punt away with what IS lethal, nose-mounted firepower. Anything more maneuverable can be engaged with more conservative tactics or avoided with reasonable ease.

And fuel management? Easy as pie. Pull the RPMs down to about 2200, you'll have ~25 minutes of fuel and  performance basically like a P-47D going balls to the wall, and have access to full power at the touch of a WEP button.

*Oh, btw, the La7 sustains a higher rate of turn than the unperked Corsairs. So a sustained nose-to-tail turning fight is in fact VERY winnable for the Lakovichin if it has the time engage the Corsair uninterrupted.

"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

I realise least talent to get kills goes to probably in this order:

1) LA7
2) Nikki
3) Spit 16

And really any Uber turn plane like Zero or Brewster if you can get some newb to try and turn with you in anything else.

Least Dweeb though Spit 14 I reckon cos we all know its not at all easy to fly but still got a 1.9 Kill to death in tour 115. So whoever was flying generally had some skill and or talent is my logic. ;)

Least dweeby would be the P40 or a goon  :)

P-40 is the only non-dweeby plane in the set.  :D

I don't hate the la7, I eat it up. It's faster than anything that out turns it, and it out turns anything that is faster than it. What's so hard about flying it?

The La7's TnB performance is overrated. It takes about 10 years to drop full flaps, by that time your as good as dead against any of the dedicated late war TnB planes. It also takes about a good 20 years to roll the La7 with full flaps.

Yep but I do have admit there were some like Shane that could make the La7 dance on the head of a pin.
