CT needs more publicity
« on: August 30, 2001, 01:28:00 AM »
Heyas I am just posting this for the fact that it may be seen by more people.

HTC how about making the arenas more visible either via the webpage or the arena login screen.
For each arena make it possible for the player to see what map is in rotation, and in the case of scenarios, special events and the CT planesets and any other pertinent info.
In the case of the CT i think this might help attendance.  I would wager 80% of the community has NO idea what planeset is available in the CT, or which terrain.  Of course I'd also bet that 30% of the players don't have a clue what the CT is.. hmm have we decided what it is yet?

Could there be an option on the website to launch AH direct from an arena info page?

Just another great idea

I've spoke with about 20 folks online that do not post here, asking them if they have an interest in going over to the CT, most say "What for, no field capture"  ie, little reward.  Too bad the CT couldn't find a common ground between those who don't want strat and those who do..bombing right now is fun for the immersion, but there is no reward other than landing.  Until there is a common ground, I'd expect miniscule numbers.

They had this in a futuristic online game (forgot the name), was realy neat ! (A little map on a webpage, where you could see what sector what controled by side XXX, etc...)

On the other hand, every time a visitor clicks on the page, it will use bandwith (& for the moment, I believe the webserver and the arena servers are kinda sharing the bandwith... they surely would if you'd have to send a request to know how many players online etc...)

Map or warps, you pick  :D

Saint just have the host update that page every 30 minutes, no need to have it update everytime someone clicked on the page

I've enjoyed every time I'vee flown in there. One problem that many seem to have with the CT is the total lack of Radar.  It's hard to find a fight.  You get in there, and it looks dead.

Perhaps just sector bars, and only when in the tower would help.

Also, it would be nice to have some sort of strat, and a map with targets.  Perhaps squads could be ranked by kills, or tonnage dropped.  The CT has tons of potential.

The reward is an experience unlike any other!  It is the most fun I have had in an MM game - hands down.  I think I speak for everyone in our squad when I say that we absolutely love this arena!

CT is in a catch 22 situation:

Low numbers are no fun.

No fun causes low numbers.

I am stubborn and will go there even when I am the only one. Hopefully, others will do the same until it either catches on or is removed by HTC.

I don't really want to play with people concerned about score. Decisions based on scoring systems seldom follow historical ones. The only score that mattered historically was the number of times you returned to the ground alive. Those who became obsessed with kills usually made mistakes and paid for them with their lives. Those who had the discipline to engage only when a good opportunity existed generally lived much longer. Those that survived over 5 years of frontline service and racked up a hundred or more kills had two things going for them: exceptional skill and luck. If there is a scoring system, I hope it is carefully implemented to encourage historical missions. You want field capture? Go fly in the MA  :p

As long as there are a couple people per side it is usually pretty fun - looking for the fight is part of the fun.

S!

The CT has sector bars.  It is not difficult to locate where the enemy is... APPROXIMATELY.   :)  That`s where the fun starts.  You don`t know exactly where they are, and that makes for some serious tension.

And those who have a little patience with low population in the CT usually get rewarded.  It doesn`t take long for people to show up.  If there is only 2 people in there, join them.  Often you fly for 10 minutes, look at the roster and suddenly there`s 15.  I have rarely lacked for fights.

<PUNT> I am going to keep pushing CT every chance I get  :)

It is simply the best flight sim experience I have ever had, so of course I want to see it succeed as well as the main arena has.

I would go there in a heartbeat if it was faster to find a fight.  The times I have been there it took way too long to find bogies and when I finally did it was at 30k.  It seemed as though there was no reason to get lower so everyone just spent their time climbing.

On the other hand I really like the historical plane sets and the more limited radar and icons.  When I am able to log on I usually only have time for an hour or so and the current setup makes it too hard to get into the action quickly.  If the fields were closer and it was easier to find and get to the enemy I would probably spend most of my time there.
