Just an observation
« on: September 04, 2009, 11:54:22 AM »
Personally Im not a fan of GVs in AH and prefer to spend FSOs in aircraft. May I suggest you poll the participants for an up to date survey of what they prefer to do in FSOs. I like the night to flow from beginning to end in 1 ride, without it broken up by these short GV bits.

Secondly on a side note, too many objectives can delute the event by spreading out players to a point where you can risk inactivity at certain points.

Not to mention REALLY spreading resources thin.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Was the Cic for the first gv involved fso. Didnt go so smooth, with a  total reset. However, the cm's have tweeked it a bit where the scenarios are working. I like the combination of air and ground. My squad has a mixture of pilots and tankers, We like the (whole thing), as long as the gvs have 1 life as a gv, makes for a good little battle...

I have zero interest in gv'ing during FSO.

Honestly, I think air-combat in FSO stretches the limits of "historical," while GV battles aren't even close.

A point to consider about the objectives. With the old 32 plane limit, and over 500 registered participants in FSO, there were numerous complaints about aircraft just suddenly appearing out of nowhere. To alleviate the old issue, it was best to have enough objectives so that only 30 or 40 players would be at any one of them.

With the current version of Aces High the number has increased to 64 players within 3,000 yards that will allow for more players to be in one area. However, this is new, and it's better to be cautious with the objectives in case there are performance issues with that many planes close together.

Ok well two things, first off we have 400+ players. 12 targets makes that 33 a/c over each. More like 35+ since we had @440 on tonight. Too few targets and we get horrendous blobs over certain areas. 6 per side is reasonable with this many players, and more coming, 2 more squads will be on in frames 2 and 3, FB and II/JG27.

GVs. If I dont include them I get asked "how come no GVs". If I include them I get complaints about GVs.

I wouldn't mind GV'ing in and FSO battle such as the one we had tonight. I as well wouldn't want to be in one for the duration of an FSO or Scenario, but some time in them every now and again I wouldn't mind. And as long as its kept to 30-45 mins tops in them its not bad.

Everyone wants the 'total war' scenario type event but no one wants to be in the GV. I drive a tank like Stevie Wonder with an inner ear infection and a bad case of the shakes, I'd be a better target than a tanker. When I do tank, I drive a M8 around and plink tanks at point blank range, heck, I've done that in jeeps before and its great fun.

Why couldn't you gents incorporate a HMS event into the FSO? At the very least. make the tankers operate outside the limitations based on squadron limitation and act independently? This way you can get the dedicated tankers in AH in the event that don't take part in the FSO on the squadron level.

If I read you correctly you mean while FSO is on going? You would have to assign someone on each side to organize them into temporary squad. And these 2 would be expected to make sure the GVs do not interfere with the regular FSO event with no real power to do so.

Walk-on/Registered Squads Only rules are the key to maintaining any kind of order in FSO.

The big problem here is one of preparation.  Should the Admin CM design the event not knowing whether or not there will be adequate attendence by the GV force?  It takes some time to setup rules and a frame architecture to support vehicles.  I'm not going to spend that time without knowing that GV's will be used or not.  Second, FSO does not take walk-on players because of the planning that CICs must do to support the frame.  The side orders support everyone's game-play in FSO; they do not act merely as a regulator for one side or the other.  Whomever is in GV's during FSO needs to be subject to those orders so that the ground action compliments the air action.  If it merely "exists" during the air action, why even have it?

Personally, I'd like to always be flying a fighter in FSO--I don't like bombers and I don't much want to GV.  I fly bombers and GVs in FSO because they're part of the event, necessary sometimes, and if my squad wants to participate, we have to be willing to participate in all aspects of the event.  However, there is a large portion of the FSO community that does like GVs and have been pushing to have them included in the event.  The FSO team has been attempting to oblige them and do it in a way that makes the ground fight complimentary to the air fight.  We'll continue to do so.

There has always been a split re GVs in FSO, and other SEA events. Thats not likely to ever change either. Some setups have them, some dont. In fairness, this is the 1st FSO I have done that has GVs, so its not like they are always included <shrug>.

I have reduced just slightly the mins for the GVs, so im hoping that those that want to GV can get in, while maybe leaving out those that really dont. In addition there should be a squad or two more for frames 2 and 3. That should increase the # of a/c as well.
