Frame 01 GV Battle action (AAR)
« on: September 05, 2009, 11:57:26 AM »
GREAT FIGHT AT V234!!!!!!!  And if you weren't there you missed a really great GV fight between the squads from both sides.

:salute to VFM-101 and the 327th for the Allied support and coordination in taking the base.

:salute to the AXIS squads and VF-15 in particular who the 325th VFG dueled with for 30 minutes.

The 325th used a offensive defense to secure the base without taking it.  In short we moved quickly to over watch positions overlooking the objective (map room), set up fire by support positions and waited holding back our troops and supplies.  The 101 and 327th maneuvered to the right flank to engage the enemy.  Our plan was to force the enemy to move first, kill them and then move across the base for the capture.  But as all plans go it never goes exactly like you planned.

It looked to me like the AXIS choose a left flank maneuver to the target area and then used long range gunnery to engage the objective area.  Hiding behind a hedge for 10 minutes I never saw so many 75mm tracers come by in my life, I thought they would never run out of ammo :O  From where I was at much of the fire was coming in from 2 - 3K and none of my rounds were fired at less than 1000M.

The squads fired and maneuvered against the others trying to gain the upper hand for a full 30 minutes.  With about 3 minutes to the end neither squad had taken the base yet.  The AXIS let their troops run first with their 251 letting them out from a covered and concealed location but getting gunned down in the process entering the map room.  With 1 minute to the end CUTT (325th VFG) made the run to the map room in his M-3 for the capture.  We almost had a situation in which both sides troops were entering the map room at the same time  :lol

It was a really good battle and a good location with fairly even terrain and distances to cover for both sides.

In my opinion what tipped it for the Allies side was the coordination and command and control of the 3 squads on the Allied side.  Again  :salute to VFM-101 (MGD) and the 327th (KOOL) for the half dozen e-mails exchanges prior to the attack to better coordinate our attack and some great maneuvering on our right flank.  Also all of the pre-mission runs offline by CO's were critical in identifying strengths and weakness's for both sides.

:salute to HighTone (Allied CIC) who made the plan and tasked the squads.  Great selection of squads / numbers and general guidance.  Just what was needed.

This was a great GV battle and any of the squads that get this tasker should enjoy it.  Its a good match up and in our case went right down to the wire with the win coming in the last minute of the battle.

I agree with Drone.  I don't really care for GVs but last night was a lot of fun.  The run up to V234 was frantic but well organized.  The duel with enemy GVs in preparation for taking the base had a good "fog of war" element (where are they, where's that fire coming from).  The thirty minute battle over the base was a lot longer than we are used to seeing in Aces High.  And then there was the final rush to capture the base.

Part 2 in I-16s turned out to be a lot more fun they I expected too.  The I-16 may not be fast but it turns on a dime.  It was a good match for the Axis fighters that we faced.

Nice AAR Viper 61.  We (13MPG) ,(Vf-15-Satans Playmates ) were your aversaries. the Fight was a GOOD one. :salute
I think our numbers wound up being ,,, 20 tanks and 10 half tracks.. We could have used  about 4 more tanks but not enough showed.
13MPG had operational control and the Vf 15 assisted us with their great cooperation.
Prowl3r(13MPG) Was lead of the ground forces.  We knew that you guys would get there b4 us so Prowl3r did some offline recon and found the ridge we perched on. We sent our base-take group (DUCK21=lead,  3 panzers, 2 troop carriers) to our left and your right.  Our main force was perched on the ridge and did not fire till the order was given.  Expecting you guys to rush the base for a take, we waited for the group to run into base.  Battle was thick, our left flank force was overun by t34's. People were killed, enemy and friendly.  Was a great battle, thank you guys for the fight.. :salute
Just curious, How many tanks did you have left at end? We had 2, and 2 troops.
Thanks , CM's, Setup, Fso team, and Plissken(CIC)..  :salute
Would like to see some film if anyone has any... Thanks Tuk151

Glad you had fun with it, nice pics too, thx. I had a lot of debate re the ratios for T-34/76 and Panzer IVs, gun power vs speed and all that, I kinda figured the T-34s would take the day, but I wasn't sure. Those Panzer IV guns are very good.

Not sure about VFM-101 and 327th at the end as far as numbers go.

The 325th tanks were generally the ones nearest the map room and covering the base and not moving unless to dodge the non stop incoming 75mm's  :uhoh

I was taken out by Alpha81 (VF-15) about 10 minutes from the end.  I believe we had about 2-4 T-34's left and 2 M-3's (all supplies used) and the troops that did the capture at 1 minute out.  We started with 9 T34's and 2 M-3's.  So you guys did some damage to us.

Great pics posted by each side.  Would have been great to have a photo RV-7 over head taking screenies as I know they would have been great!

It was a great fight that went right down to the wire.  It doesn't get any better than that  :aok
