But the other guy is the guy who died sir..........  So?

HIS plane - yes.

Both planes? You can't see from this screenshot how it looked for the other guy....

But still you can't give ANY judgement about him and his damage from this screenshot. It's very important in discussions about collisions to make that point as clear as possible again & again.

I agree wholeheartedly about the "2 worlds" idea.  But if the Pony took these photos and then walked away.....  Something is wrong with the collision model.  (OMG, can't believe I just said that)  Afterall, it's what your display shows you that is "your" truth.  As the other guy's monitors shows his.

But still you can't give ANY judgement about him and his damage from this screenshot. It's very important in discussions about collisions to make that point as clear as possible again & again.

The discussion should be about the P-51 (if that is what Lepape 2 was in) flying away and landing. If Lepape 2 saw that on his end (while in the P-51) then he should have taken more damage, or an instant trip to the tower.

Just to be very clear Lepape 2, in that screen shot are you flying the P-51?

Yes here is the film: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mnnl30atuzo

Collision is at the 3:00minute mark

I was the pony and was a newbie by that time... I was playing for maybe 2-3 months

Collisions depend on position info which probably can occasionaly get a little messy over the net.  Like in that screenshot.  Maybe there's some positional/prediction funk caused by packet loss or something.

...all I know is that in any such case I should win... period.

For some reason they just try to shoot me down.

Without being able to see the film,..

Is it possible the pony driver scored a head shot and the software order of execution left the graphics in place with no longer rendering damage?

So, basically, the pilot was dead ( since there's no debris other than the wheel, this would point to a dead pilot ) before the planes 'collided.'

Eventually the damage resolution got around to removing the plane graphics, but it would be right after the collision?

Just a thought.

I would think that the positional data used to calculate the collisions are exactly the same as those used to display the 3d models - hence network problems shouldn't be an issue in this matter. Since the film shows an overlap of volumes on Lepape2's computer, he should have gotten the "you have collided with..." message.

Maybe the collision detection runs at a lower frequency than the display engine, so its possible to miss the small time window when  two fast planes intersect? Could it be a film issue, i.e we are not seeing exactly what happened? /wild guess mode off/

Edit:
APDrone, I like your thought better than my guesswork  :aok (I should have read the whole thread before posting)

No.. I've had a couple of those non-collisions myself. Survived them with no damage or collision after flying my cockpit thru theirs.  Some packet funk or the collision frequency are the only things I can think of though.

Somehow, I managed to survive this HO... lived and landed. The other HOer never got to kiss mother earth; only one of his wheels did.

I guess HOs need indeed a little work, or rather the damage model. But, its fun anyway (not to HOs I mean  :D)

(Image removed from quote.)

I believe he is mentioning that neither plane went down.

seeing as there's pretty much 2 realities, during a fight....and when a collision happens, it creates confusion.....and in all obviousness, you cannot collide without getting kinda close...... :devil

ya know when ya hear that hollow sounding bang when a part from the other aircraft hits ya? well, i wonder how hard it would be to enable for those parts to cause damage to the aircraft they hit.
this would sorta encourage guys to turn off a bit sooner, rather then fly right up someone's tail, wait till they're 100 ft back, pull hard, and wonder how they didn't miss.
