Yeah, it's pretty common actually.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Hey!
Remember when KC-135's had water injection to give the engines more thrust! Man those were the days, they would go to "water" and the hold hanger would shake!
wow that was a long time ago......

Watch some videos of B777s departing Manchester. No water on the ground, but it will generate a similar effect in the right conditions.

EDIT: Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a80ark8Rpsk

Never saw that before despite being in and around aircraft for most of my working life. Mind you I don't usually stand so close to jet intakes. The video taken at Manchester was interesting. The 777 is fascinating. But watching any airliner line up and take off is interesting, to me anyway despite the fact that they have long since lost their mystique.

On another point, the person who posted that video on youtube is technically breaking British law. It is in fact illegal to listen in on ATC in the UK and certainly illegal to post it on youtube. Having said that, it's probably the most broken British law in history, given the number of spotters in the UK.

That is a pretty neat deal there. I had no idea that a jet engine would cause such a thing.

This one is pretty cool though.
