Bristol Beaufighter found off the coast of Naxos
« on: September 10, 2009, 09:53:27 PM »
Hello fellow pilots,

today I was checking my inbox when I noticed an odd email. The person was asking me for information about a pilot from WWII. Naturally I was intrigued with the request and took a look. Here's what I read:

Quote
Dear sir
Few years ago we locate a Beaufighter TF MKx off coast of Naxos (Aegean)

http://www.naxosdiving.com/content/view/64/97/lang,en/

The last year we locate one more that is not published yet.
So, I am writing an article about a fight that took place in Greece on
the 30th of October 1943.
One of the Beaus was the JM317S belongs to 47th sqn, with 2 people crew,
William Hayter F/O pilot (47 sqn)
and a navigator called Thomas J Harper that as far as I know belongs to 603sqn.
The Beau shoted and forced to ditched. The crew survived.
Do you have any information about Thomas J. Harper that could help or idealy photo ?

Regards

The links provided in the email give you a brief overview of the search, spotting, and examination of the aircraft. Quite an intriguing find considering the plane's relative distance from the shore and surface.

Did he offer to share the Beaufighter if you provided your bank account number and other important personal info?    :D

Lots of film 'floating' around the web of that one.  Nice photo though.  Nice chunk of armor place on the nose behind the missing nose cone :)

He he he... No, that would be my Nigerian friend who demands to be called by his title of Barrister. He continues to assure me that my inheritance is on the way and I need only to pay the release fee of $5,000.
